Kathmandu: The Closing / Prize Distribution Ceremony of the ongoing “9th Edition of Nepal-Pakistan Friendship T20 Cricket Tournament-2024″ was held, 10′ March 2024. The event had commenced on 2nd March 2024 and twelve teams of various clubs from Kathmandu participated in the Tournament.
Honourable Mr. Shiva Koirala (Jwala), Vice President, National Sports Council, Nepal graced the occasion as Chief Guest, and awarded the Trophy to the winning team of Cricket Excellence Centre Kathmandu. Whereas ‘Lee Cricket’ won the runners-up trophy.
Special Guests included Mr. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General SAARC, H.E Ms. Noha Hamdy Ahmed Elgebaly, Ambassador of Egypt to Nepal, H.E Mr. Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal and Mr. Xie Yu Economic & Commercial Counsellor, Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Mr. Utsav Dhungana, General Manager, Cricket Association of Nepal, Mr. Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha, Chairman Himalayan Bank Limited and Mr. Ashoke SJB Rana, Chief Executive Officer, Himalayan Bank Limited.
This apart, several journalists, civil society representatives and sports lovers also attended the ceremony. The Special Guests presented the prizes to prominent players and officials of the T20 Cricket Tournament. Addressing the Ceremony, Honourable Mr. Shiva Koirala lauded the Pakistan Embassy’s initiative for successfully organizing the event. He added that the event is now on the sporting calendar of Kathmandu and manifestation of close relations between Nepal and Pakistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador HE. Abrar H. Hashmi congratulated the winning teams and lauded the organizers on successfully materializing the event. He added that the tournament contributed in providing opportunities to emerging cricket players of Nepal. This yearly event since 2014 has been an avenue to forge strong relations between both countries.
He committed to continue to bring the youths of two countries together by organizing such events in future as well. The Ambassador thanked the Chief Guest, special guests and the participants for their interest and presence in the event. He also extended his gratitude to Himalayan Bank Limited on supporting the event.
