Nepal Embassy celebrates Mt. Everest Day in Islamabad, Pakistan

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad organized today a programme to celebrate the Mt. Everest Day at the Embassy in Islamabad.

The programme was organized to commemorate the first ascent to the Mt. Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953.

As the luck would have it, the world class Nepali mountaineer Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was later awarded Indian Citizenship by a clever and smart Indian Prime Minister Pt. J. N. Nehru.

It was a classic case of Nepali neglect exhibited by Nepali government and the then bureaucracy.

H.E. Mr. Tapas Adhikari, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, welcomed the guests at the programme and congratulated Mr. Abdul Joshi on his recent ascent to the Mt. Everest on 16 May 2022.

On the occasion, Ambassador Adhikari expressed his confidence that his expedition to the Everest ( The Sagarmatha) will inspire many young Pakistani for mountaineering and adventure tourism and increase people-to-people contacts between Nepal and Pakistan.

The Nepali envoy said that Pakistan and Nepal are the countries connected to the Himalayan region, where there are many opportunities for tourism and other adventures.

Ambassador Adhikari said that 2 million tourists visit Nepal every year, where the government is committed to provide all kinds of facilities to them.

“Direct air flight was essential for economic, trade and other cooperation between the two countries” the Ambassador noted., the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) adds.

He also highlighted the impacts of climate change on the mountains and urged for collectively addressing the negative consequences.

During the programme, Mr. Joshi shared his interesting expedition experience while scaling the summit.

He also drew many parallels between Nepal and Pakistan, particularly in the field of trekking and tourism.

The programme was attended by alpinists and media people from Pakistan.

The Embassy officials were also present during the programme.
