Nepal: Kashmir (Black Day) program held ; China’s fresh comments on Kashmir irks India

Biratnagar/Kathmandu, October 31, 2022: The Pakistan Embassy in Nepal organized a talk programme on the “Consequences of Illegal Occupation” to commemorate the Kashmir Black Day.

Seventy-five years ago, on 27 th October 1947 India had deployed troops to Srinagar in an unlawful intervention and had illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

Since then Pakistan and the Kashmiris in the entire Indian occupied territory observe this day as “Kashmir Black Day”.

The observance of Black Day has already become a regular phenomenon wherein Pakistan invariably speaks each year against the oppression and the repression of the Kashmiri population residing in the Indian occupied area.

Prominent politicians, analysts, scholars and eminent journalists participated in the event.

During the programme, messages of President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan were read out for the audience present at the Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal.

In his message, President Arif Alvi paid tribute to the Kashmiris on their
resilience in their just struggle for the right to self-determination. President Alvi
highlighted Indian state terrorism in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Likewise, incumbent Prime Minister Shahbaz Shareef reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolute support for the Kashmiri brothers and sisters and reiterated Pakistan’s continued solidarity with the Kashmiri people until realization of their legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

The PM also demanded immediate lifting of the military siege and communications’ blockade as well as rescinding of India’s illegal and unilateral actions in IIOJK in violation of numerous UNSC resolutions.

The Pakistani Prime Minister demanded access for international human rights and humanitarian organizations, as well as the international media, so as to investigate the grave human rights situation in the occupied territory.

Foreign Minister Bilwal Bhutto Zardari in his message highlighted that the Jammu & Kashmir dispute has been a battle of hope against overwhelming odds, of courage against fear, and sacrifice against tyranny and paid rich tributes to all the martyrs for their ultimate sacrifice and to their families for their resolve and perseverance.
He called upon the international community to take practical steps to hold India accountable Indian Government must reverse the unilateral and illegal actions of 5 th August 2019.

The Charge d’Affaires (a.i.) Umair Ali recalled the genesis of the long- festering dispute and numerous UNSC resolutions which enshrined the promise not just from the United Nation but from the international community to the people of Jammu and Kashmir about their right to self-determination.

The non- implementation of these resolutions had subjected several generations of the people of IIOJK to grave injustices, sufferings and jeopardized the peace and stability of the entire region.

Speaking at the event, participants expressed serious concerns on the media / information blockade, use of pellet guns, arrest of Kashmiri leadership and other inhuman actions of Indian government which have been well documented in UN High Commissioner on Human Rights reports.

Miscellaneous reporting of Amnesty International and other international human right organizations were also taken into account and India’s repressive measures in the disputed territory were criticized by the attending participants that included some medias men.

The participants had a consensus that the unresolved status of Jammu and Kashmir dispute has been the biggest challenge to peace in South Asia.

In the meanwhile, a news report from Barcelona, Spain, compiled by the Pakistan Today dated October 30, 2022 claims that a large number of students had converged at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona to learn about the latest situation in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir.

On the occasion, addressing the attending Spanish participants/students, Muhammad Shafiq Tabassam, the President, Tehreek-e-Kashmir, Spain, expressed his sincere appreciation to the students for taking time during their hectic schedule.

This is not all.

News from China too claims that recently the Chinese foreign ministry too spoke on Kashmir issue.

China on October 27, 2022, said India and Pakistan should resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue and consultations and avoid taking “unilateral actions” that could further complicate the situation.

Replying to a question on the Kashmir issue raised by a Pakistani journalist, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during a media briefing here said that China’s position on the issue of Kashmir has been “consistent and clear”.

This statement from China is the first one after President Xi Xinping assumed the Chinese Presidency for the third time.

Needless to say, the remarks made by China on Kashmir has irked India as usual.

President Xi is perhaps the second Chinese leader who is most powerful after Chairman Mao Tse-Tung.

The statement on Kashmir from China has come close on the heels of the Indian dis-information campaign that President Xi Jinping has been ousted from power upon his return from the Sanghani Cooperation Meet held in Uzbekistan.

Let’s presume that China-India bilateral relations shall continue to remain strained in the years ahead.
