Lalitpur: Hats off to the energetic students of the Kathmandu University Literary Society (KULS) for arranging a lively program at their premises, December 3, 2021 with the author of the book “Kathmandu-Paris-Kathmandu”-Shyam Mohan Shrestha.

Professor Kashi Raj Pandey took the lead for the event to happen.

He was the main man behind the program.

The boys and girls of the University had made serious efforts in making the program a success, it was learnt from the KULS organisers.

As we were given to understand, the KULS is some sort of a club that intends to bring in all those who were interested in the literary field.

The book authored by Shyam Mohan Shrestha “Kathmandu-Paris-Kathmandu” is all about the author’s adventurous tale that he accomplished in the early seventies and reached his final destination-Paris, the capital of France also known as the city of light, braving all the difficulties en route.

The most interesting part of the story, as author Shrestha told the attending boys and the girls of the University, is that he reached to his dream country, France, crossing several countries, for example, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Belgrade, and Italy.

Mr. Shrestha took the same land route while returning to Kathmandu.

The means of his transportation from Kathmandu to Paris included Bus and Train.

During the course of the panel discussion, author all smiling Shrestha advised the attending students that strong determination is what counts prior to taking up such a travel and that too by land route.

Mr Prazwal Dhungana, Ms. Eva Kafle and Deepali Shrestha conducted the interaction program.

Professor Mitra Bandhu Poudel appreciated Mr. Shrestha’s honesty while writing the book.

Later, a lively panel discussion followed and the author answered a few questions made to him from the floor.

The Chairman of the Literary Club P Dhungana, Ms. Eva Kafley and Ms. Deepali Shrestha conducted the program together with the panel discussion that too went well.

Initiating the program, Professor Mitra bandhu Poudel dealt at length on the book penned by Shyam Shrestha and recounted what he felt upon reading the book.

Here is what Professor Poudel recounts:

Professor Poudel says, ” It took fifty years for the author to complete the book”.

It is full of interesting events and that as a reader I felt that, continued Poudel, I was the one who travelled from Kathmandu to Paris and vice-versa.

He praised the author in having recorded in the book both his strength and weaknesses without any exaggeration and that the efficiency of Nepali Post Office in the past has been better explained.

Professor Poudel further remarked that “Nepali economy and the strength of Nepali currency in the past seemed to have been much better”.

In the end, says the distinguished Professor, “inter-cultural relationship, its beauty and problems are clearly stated in the book authored by Shyam Mohan Shrestha.

At the end of the program organised by the Kathmandu University Literary Club, author Shyam Mohan thanked the authorities of the KULS and those who contributed to make the program a grand success that it was.

Congratulations Shyam Mohan Shrestha for your contribution to the Nepali literature.

That’s all.
