Nepal Maoist leader Bhattarai is popular among people: Bhandari

Baburam Bhattarai’s real strength is his public popularity. Any one is free to conduct a survey to quantify his popularity among the people. Baburam’s popularity has gone up mainly because Prachanda and the Maoists’ big shots Baidya, Badal and Naryan Kaji have simply undermined him. Babu Ram’s efficiency can be evaluated from his short stint as the country’s Finance Minister. He is very popular among the common public. His lifestyle is simple. Even in power, he did not amass wealth and did not involve in group activities.

  • to be empowering so that the could grveon themselves. That's from the journalism book alright but that is exactly what I wanted to do- analyze the popularity (which is less popularity, more expectation of people, I think) of BRB against his history of inconsist politics and hardline politics. Just because BRB today wants the peace process to end or integrate combatants in 45 days doens't mean he aways belived in that (refer to a section of the article that talks about how BRB creticized Prachanda when the latter agreed on a grveonment proposal to bring combatants under special committee). And this whole euphoria sorrouding BRB that portrays him as a darling of middle class can't hide the fact that he is a leader of a party that aim, ultimately, at establishing a communist dictatorship. As a reporter, despite admiring BRB, I felt compelled to bring those sides of the stories too- as honestly as possible. As for your imaginative remark that BRB chose thorns against the comfort (actually, the term kadaghari was used by a reporter in the newspaper that I work for, so its not new when I read it from you). That is what most politicians have done, not just YOUR Baburam. And anyone can't become a prime minister without any contribution to society or playing important role in political arena. And nobody forced him to take that thorny route (though I don't agree that that was a thorny route at all). If you say abandoning the post of MP and going to lead a war is a thorny path, soldiers always do that. And that doesn't make more special than ordinary civilian citizen of a country who contributes to the nation building process at his/her own capacity. You don't seem to read parts of my article that talk about the fact that BRB has two important aspects that Nepali society dreams to identify with- Doctor title and technical education.Plus, you may want to without making you agitated enough to post a comment like the one above.

  • Hey people:We do NOT have a Parliament per se. What we HAVE is a CA. The CA & the govt is fnctnioug under an Interim Constitution. The job of the CA is to re-write a Constitution which way behind schedule. Maoist have made a mockery out of this whole process. On the other hand, it is in Maoist grand design to let the country governed by chaos so that they can create an environment for justifying th4 capture of the state. They have already brought the business/industrial sector under their sphere of influence due to their militant trade unions. They have infiltrated the bureaucracy & the police. They have the education sector on its knees.Jantas are also at their wits end due to the lack of basic services like electricity, water & security. People are too busy trying to find enough water to cook, clean or bathe, let alone go on a protest. The economy is has double digit inflation & unemployment.Security is non-existent. Terai & the Ethnic based enclaves are burning. Our very fabric as a nation is being torn apart. The only two institutions that are left for the Maoists to control is the NA & the Judiciary. They are already tampering with the Judiciary. Now they have made their strategic move to capture the NA through a vertical integration by the nomination of Gen Khadgha as Army Chief.Moas did not have to fight their final battle to capture the state. They just had to infiltrate the govt to further their goals. Now it is upto us , the People (whom they so often espouse) to decide whether we had enough or we are willing to live under primitive conditions with no security, no employment, no schools for our kids.It is time to build a new party that looks after the national interests rather than narrow party interests. Lets throw all these crooks out.
