“If the Nepali people
so wish and desire, the restoration of monarchy is still possible. There is no
need to revive monarchy in cultural form. The role of monarchy should be well defined
in the new constitution. The current political situation is there for all to
see. The monarchy will not stay mute in such a grave situation…the institution
of monarchy has always in the past respected various beliefs and religions and
it still continues to do so. There is no logic in relating Nepal’s monarchy
with that of Hindu religion only.”
Nepal’s former crown
prince Paras Shah made these comments upon meeting the press at a program
organized to felicitate him by the Khadgi Samaj Nepal, August 21, 2010.
