Nepal UML Chief Oli be congratulated for climbing Tower

Gokarna Bista

Secretary UML, Nepal

TQ1: Your party President is engaged more in other works than what should have been in the political activities?

Mr. Bista: Well, our President is indeed active in politics and also in a variety of other acts which is also a part of life which is what I presume. That is why at times some parts of your life, a personal one, gets reflected. I personally don’t think that is it otherwise.

TQ2: But the allegations were that he kept himself engaged in climbing the Dhara Hara Minaret instead of enjoying the New Year celebrations?

Mr. Bista:  His courage in stepping up the Dhara Hara  tower, personally speaking, is not and should not be taken as an unusual event. No personal comments on that. The problem with Nepali society is that at times we award undue focus to some personal events. I don’t want to enter into this subject or whatsoever it is. Other meetings in the process give an opportunity to mingle with others and understand and analyze the political events prevailing at the moment. Such a meet does allow understanding them better. Thus let’s not give such meets as unfavorable for the nation and its politics.  Let’s take it negatively. And there is no need to engage in such trifling issues.

TQ3: There are comments that in order to prove himself a healthy person he is doing such acts such as climbing Dhar Hara tower? Is it that?

Mr. Bista: The courage and zeal that ailing Chairman Oli has exhibited in steeping up the tower should demands congratulations from all. We should collectively congratulate him for what he has done very freshly.

TQ4: Is it suitable for a person of the stature of Chairman Oli to engage in such acts who is talked to be the next PM in waiting?

Mr. Bista: Which job has gone wrong? His zeal, self confidence and courage should be admired as he has done this at a time when he is physically unhealthy. This is positive side. That’s why we must thank him and congratulate hoping that he could do more for the nation when he is free from ailments. This is the proof that he is active because he is still healthy political man.  Let’s hope that in the days ahead he will be able to work for the betterment of the people, in the health sector, and also uplift the people who were on the average line in an impartial manner. We must encourage him to do more works that enhances communal bonds between us all.

TQ5: Your party is in government but yet people in Jajarkot are dying? Why it is so?

Mr. Bista: You have raised a very important question. Hundreds of people in Jajarkot have been suffering. Some have already died and the State that should have exhibited its expediency remains so far missing. The state should center its eye on saving the ailing people. We must exert enough pressure on the coalition government.

TQ6: During the last Nepali year you could do nothing for the people and the nation? Is not it that?

Mr. Bista: Some issues of dispute have narrowed down. On some matters there is consensus. But results are not that visible. Some problems remain. Whatever efforts were made during last year, have narrowed down the issues of disputes. There lay the possibility that the rest of the unsettled disputes would be sorted out soon. There is silver lining in the dark clouds and some positive indications are being made visible. I firmly believe that the year 2072 will provide us with results. This year will award us with the new constitution. I hope that this year something concrete awaits the population.

TQ7: But there appears no premise to believe that the constitution shall be promulgated this running year?

Mr. Bista: Take it for granted that the nation shall receive new constitution this year. There are sound basis to believe. The present meets between the political leaders is much different than what it used to happen in the past. The leaders have become grave and serious. Thus I am very much hopeful that the constitution shall be promulgated this year.

TQ8: The question of federal order stand where it stood. Allegations are that the UML is opposing for consensus? Is it that?

Mr. Bista: It is not the UML which is opposing consensus in the issue of federalism. Instead, our firm stance has exerted enough pressure for the draft of the new national document. It has helped to bring in those issues which could have far reaching negative impact on the nation as a whole. That is why do not hurl allegation on the UML party.

TQ9: What about the dispute in the five districts? UML can become flexible?

Mr. Bista: I think all of the parties should come up with flexible mindset for talks. The solution can’t be arrived at if the UML only becomes flexible. The UML is of the view that Himal, Pahad and Terai, upon reading the psychology of the people residing in these areas, their inner intentions too should be well addressed. On the other hand we should look into the fact any decision taken on federal order must not have its negative impact felt on the nation. The parties which had a determined stand on these issues, some sort of flexibility now could be seen in these parties. And this encourages me to claim that some solutions appear round the corner.

TQ10: Are you of the view that there should be the formation of a constitutional commission?

Mr. Bista: In some informal level talks, what came up that a small team of leaders could sort out this issue and why should then there is the need of the constitutional commission? Let’s provide this issue to the Nepali leaders for arriving at a solution. That solutions could be achieved has made us all happy and we are eagerly awaiting the happy results. That’s all.
