Nepal is not at all in Chinese agenda

Pradip Nepal

UML leader, Nepal

TQ1: What keeps you busy these days?

Mr. Nepal: Very freshly I came back from China wherein I stayed for ten days. I have to write an article centering my China trip. These days, I am being invited in literary programs. And I attend those programs.

TQ2:  What makes you to get inclined more in literary programs that the political ones?

Mr. Nepal: It is not me to dictate programs. Those who invite me, I attend. In political programs so far none have invited me and thus I do not go there.

TQ3: Why you are being ignored in political programs? Any reason?

Mr. Nepal: Well, after the conclusion of the UML eighth general convention, the party tried its utmost to push me to the wall. I was not even allowed to make a trip to the district assemblies and thus stopped from going there. When formally invited but yet I was not allowed to go to the districts. I am not a man to fight on such trifling issues. I had told all that if an invitation is there then I will definitely come to attend. And if no invitation then I shall not come.

TQ4: That time you were the victim of the establishment panel of the party? Isn’t it?

Mr. Nepal: Those were the days when I had been continuously cornered and pushed to the wall many a times. I saved myself only with my inner zeal and courage. If it were others then they would have quit the party well within fifteen days after the conclusion of the party convention.

TQ5: When you were being pushed to the wall, did not you think of quitting the party for good?

Mr. Nepal: Well, this is the party which is also my own creation. My contribution to the UML party is much more than JN Khanal. Then why should I quit? Even as of today I am swinging like a pendulum and finally settled in the water resources and energy department.

TQ6: You are still not happy, it is talked?

Mr. Nepal: No! No! I remain satisfied in anything or whatsoever. Had they not offered me anything but yet I would have been a happy personality.

TQ7: Why so then?

Mr. Nepal: Because the leaders that we have today in our party are not honorable for me simply for we hold the same political status. We are equal ones. Situation made them leader while I was not. Such a situation I have to accept.

TQ8: So is it that you could not become a leader due to the situational factor or your attitude?

Mr. Nepal: How could a man be associated with his or her attitude? Had I accepted to become the servant or remained subservient to anyone in the party, I could have a bright future. That I understand better.

TQ9: You had aired that you will quit UML party for good some five years ago? What about that?

Mr. Nepal: As I stated earlier, had KP Oli become the UML chairman during the eights general convention, I would have quit the party right then. I thought that Oli will not be amongst us during the eights convention however, thanks God he is still alive and kicking. Had he not been the UML Chairman in the ninth general convention, he would have died. The Chairman post is lingering his life so to say. How long he will survive no body knows. He would not have a sound sleep had he died by not assuming the post of the party Chairman. We decided why not to elevate this man who contributed most during the Jhapa movement. All of the leaders assumed post but Oli did not. So he has been made the Chairman this time.

TQ10: So why not he be elevated to Nepal PM Post then?

Mr. Nepal: No. Not at all. My responsibility if for the UML party. These days the PM post is not as per our desire. It is Delhi which nominates Nepal PM Post. If Delhi likes him then he can become the Nepal PM. If it is Deuba then Deuba is the PM.

TQ11: You have just returned from China. So what China prefers in Nepal?

Mr. Nepal: The Nepalese people may feel it bad, however, the fact is that Nepal is not in the agenda of China. Their prime agenda is some what different. They just think of beating America in all possible fronts. The Nepalese need money and thus they give money to us. What of China, Nepal now receives aid from Tibet.

TQ12: Is it that our leaders run towards China for asking money?

Mr. Nepal: Why you ask me such questions. I did not meet high flying leaders from China. I just met with academicians. I could learn much from them during the meets that I have had with them. For China, Nepal doesn’t count. It is just the South which counts in and for Nepal.

The Budhbar Weekly April 1, 2015: Thanks: Ed.
