Nepal: Monarchy is still the symbol of National Unity
Q. On May 28, 2010 when majority of the parties stood in favor of Constituent Assembly tenure extension, your party was the only one against the decision. Why you stood against the decision?
Gurung: The peoples’ mandate for CA was just for two years period. And, to tell you very frankly the RPP-Nepal was totally aware of the lethargic attitude of the so-called big political parties. Thus we had been frequently reminding those parties of their duties and commitments to constitution drafting. We were also telling them that the deadline for constitution drafting was limited to two years period. Thus we demanded fresh elections to renew the peoples’ mandate. We were not in favor of extending the tenure of the constituent which no more had the mandate.
Q. You were the only party against the tenure extension. Are you now satisfied with your performance?
Gurung: Not just satisfied we are in fact proud of ourselves. We have been raising the issues linked to our National Interest, Nationalism and Sovereignty in a forceful and effective manner. We are happy with the support we are getting from the mass.
Q. Do you believe that with the tenure extension, the country will ultimately see the constitution drafted?
Gurung: Look we have witnessed that both the signatories of the Peace Accord, the former rebels and the Seven party Alliance have time and again breached the agreement. There is no guarantee that both the parties would abide by the agreement in future as well. I do not even see that they will forge unity in the contentious issues of State Restructuring and guaranteeing fundamental rights to the people. And above all there is no unity among the parties on the issue of Management and Rehabilitation of Maoists’ Militias. No progress has been made in the agenda of constitution drafting, since the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly. If the prevailing dilly dallying continue then there is no possibility as such for constitution being drafted? I see the situation becoming more and more chaotic.
Q. Why are you so pessimistic?
Gurung: Violence and rampant killings have been legitimized. No one dares to bring criminals to book. And, the foreigners have begun interfering in our internal affairs in an open manner. You may have heard that foreigners had freshly offered support to the Limbuwan and Khumbuwan groups. This is indeed a matter of serious concern. But, tell me how many people are there to understand this fact?
Q. Are you extremely happy with the failure of the major parties?
Gurung: Not just the political parties have failed to fulfill their commitments, but they have failed to execute promises they had made to the people. The RPP-Nepal is soon organizing Hindu Jagaran Rath Yatra between Janakpur, Lumbini and Pasupatinath. The real followers of Hindu religion are supporting us. We are totally committed to restore our Hindu identity.
Q. Your party has recently adopted the agenda of Hindutwa and the issue of restoration of constitutional monarchy has gone to the back seat?
Gurung: We have well accepted the changes brought in by the 2062-63 Movement, yet we have kept alive the agenda for restoration of Constitutional Monarchy and Hindu state. Our dissatisfaction to the forceful ouster of monarchy and Hindu state is as it is. We are nevertheless totally confident that we will achieve our goals under any circumstances. We want such issues settled though plebiscite. We observed that with the changes brought into effect by the 62/63 movement, Hinduism and Buddhism have come under serious attack and forceful religious conversion is being taken place. There is clearly the agenda to attack religious-cultural identity. Thus we are serious towards such issues.
Q. So the issue of Monarchy is no more in your agenda?
Gurung: That is not true. We are aware of the importance, prestige and glory of Nepali monarchy. We believe that the monarchy is the only institution that can unify the entire Nepali population. The Monarchy is the symbol of National Unity.
Q. Are you confident that Nepali will be able to restore the Hindu Identity?
Gurung: Hundred percent. 86 percent of the Nepali population follows the Sanatan Hindu religion.

are you a oppurtunitist? are you a greedy-selfish like all the chetri-bahun cunning politician?? or you are just ignoring the reall fact of nepali politics, goverment policis, nepali education system, geography, history, culture and religious practise ??? do you know youself who you are ???? i have doubt about this guy called chandra bdr gurung, about 80-90% goverment job has been controlled by chhetri bahun, nepal has more the 50% mongolian-indigenious peoples(they are not hindu at all) still they are trying to make nepal as hindu country, all the chetri and bahun from janitor to priminister involved in corruption ,country became one of the poor country in world because of all the greddy oppurtunitist chheri and bahun, so much to say u cant imagine what is this greedy peoples are doing in nepal, party like nepali congress and uml are becoming chetri-bahun centric political party, try to put forward hindu and chhetri bahun policies in nepal,we have already question mark for this two party from indigenious society, you cant imagine about king and party like rpp in this context but you mr gurung trying to help them manipulate and marginalize your own society helping this kind of party, you most be either oppurtunitist or stuppid dump this is my conclusion for today.
i just wanted to know about this guy....i have hundreads of question to ask him ...!!!!
i was really curious about this guy since the 1st siting of the parliament last 2 years back,do anyone knows about his personal detail? could you please provide some short of detail about this guy .....???
Thank you MP Gurung - spoken like a red blodded Nepali. Simple and straight to the point unlike these foreign dalals in all the major parties.
I ask Mr.Gurung to accept my sincere thanks for his thoughtful and dedicated views he has so far been expressed.I found voices of majority people in his expression. No doubt,
monarchy is symbol of national unity and fate of independent Nepal.Jay Nepal !
People like Chandra Gurung are sound illlustrations of good nationalists who beliwve in 'unity in diversity' and do not have an inferiority complex when dealing withteh Bahun-Chetri-Newar elite of Nepal. It's amazing how he rightly realizes that questions over Monarchy, Hindu stae and Federalism are issues for Plebiscite and not Referendum as they are matetrs for the soverin people to decide on their conscience and not subject to party whips, manifestos and public pressures as with a Referendum where the People simply rubber stamp the decision of Parliament.
Great news! It is always good to read about intelligent nepali people with critical thinking. Full support to RPP Nepal in their effort. I am willing to donate to such a legitimate cause. Nepalis are confusing india bashing with hindu bashing. Hinduism is not an indian religion, it belongs equally to NEpal. Please do not be ignorant. Please research the holy places in Nepal and you will find hidstorical hindu link with NEpal. Lord Buddha's parents were hindus themselves. Buddhism and hinduism are not different religions. They are 2 wheels of the same bicycle. However a federal structure for Nepal should not be denied also. It serves best to minimise corruption and ensure law and order. As long as hindu monarchy is there to unite us, it really doesnt matter if the federal set-up is ethnic or by other means. As long as we have a strong basic foundation for unity (monarchy and use of nepali national language) then we will never go wrong even if a federal set up is adopted. Jai Nepal!

A far sighted thought from a true nationalist. I would like to thank Mr. Gurung too for his sincere thought.
