Nepal Govt. tells Pascoe not to exceed diplomatic limits
The Government of Nepal on Sunday March 14, 2009, has formally expressed dissatisfaction over the sharp criticism of the UN under Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe, made targeting Nepal’s political parties.
Pascoe, who left Nepal Friday March 12, 2010, after completing his three day visit had criticized Nepal’s political parties for their abject failure in handling the peace process.
Two days after his departure, the cabinet meeting held on Sunday said that Pascoe’s remarks had exceeded all the diplomatic limits.
Pascoe had also claimed that the allegations being made by some leaders towards UNMIN was absurd and demanded for immediate end to such remarks.
“We urge the UN official to express views remaining under the diplomatic limits”, the government spokesperson and minister for information and communication Mr. Shankar Pokharel told the media.
With the government attacking Pascoe’s remarks, analysts presume that a sort of undeclared verbal war has begun in between Nepal Government and the UN body.
