Free entertainment in Nepal, Violent Clash mars NC meet

TGW

Nepal’s oldest surviving Democratic Party, if it were at all, led by none less than the Nepal Government Noble Peace Prize nominee, Girija Prasad Koirala of the Lauda, Tanakpur and many more scandals fame, is in trouble once again.

The party is not in trouble to the extent of facing another vertical split due to the fight in between the leaders for power booty but the dissatisfaction that prevails among among the Congress cadres has already crossed the tolerance limit.

In fact, the NC, historically an internally divided party had formed a committee led by party vice president Prakash Man Singh Shrestha, Son of late Ganesh man Singh- to sort-out inner differences.

The differences that are there since the Nepali Congress splinters led by Girija and Deuba respectively were united some two years back.

A meeting was called to that effect, Wednesday February 19, 2010, at the party headquarters in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

While the meeting was continuing inside the party premise, sharp at 11:00 AM, the dissatisfied party cadres’ crowd who were having placards and banners were protesting outside.

They were mainly protesting against the decision of the said committee to unilaterally appoint their ‘favored ones’ as the head of some districts bureau of the party, particularly in Nuwakot, Kailali, Pyuthan, Bara, Sankhusabha and Okhaldhunga.

Mr. Prakash Man Singh arrived at the main-gate of the party headquarters a bit late. The cadres who were chanting slogans thus interrupted their vice chairman-Mr. Singh- to enter into the party premises.

Singh who looked in an aggressive mood pushed the cadres using his hand and hit a severe blow to one of his cadres.

Mr. Singh is taken as a NC muscle man.

Thus the scuffle began which took its toll.

Then it was the turn of the cadres to hit their leader and that they did very efficiently. Shrestha supporters who immediately arrived at the venue and the protesting cadres also held another round of fighting.

Free entertainment was there for all to watch.

After the situation became tense, police was called to take the situation under control.

The dejected cadres broke some chairs.

Yet after the scuffle ended, the central secretariat meet could not finalize the date for the convening of the 13th NC General Assembly.

Majority NC cadres are demanding General Assembly to be held prior to the Constitution drafting process ends.

Some 20 NC cadres were injured.
NC cadres appear to be in a mood to shape a New Nepal soon.
Insiders of the NC say that those who pounced upon Mr. Singh were Koirala's men. However, this remains to be substantiated.

What a pity that this melee did not result in Girija Babu being rejected, posthumously, for the Nobel Prize. Of course it's also equally true that Ganeshman-putra is so disguistingly commnual. Oh but what fun...may the other monkeys see and follow:)
