Nepal Maoist’s NO to Pluralism, Not to submit weapons: Mohan baidya

TGW

Mohan Baidya Pokharel ‘Kiran’, the Unified Maoists’ senior vice president told a journalist gathering in Kathmandu today, February 5, 2010, that Democracy and National Independence are interrelated with each other.

He said “We cannot neglect National Independence when we talk of Democracy.”

“We readily accepted competitive politics as we are already into it but we will never accept political pluralism”, said the Maoists’ ideologue who is talked to be the “teacher” of Chairman Prachanda.

“Competitive Politics and political pluralism are two different things…one needs to understand the difference”, Baidya provided his new definition.

When asked to comment on the contentious issue of Integration of Maoists’ Peoples’ Liberation Army, the communist veteran told journalists that after the revolution comes to an end we will treat the National Army as its own Army. He hinted that the Maoists’ revolution thus continues.

“The Constitution Drafting process and the process of integration must go together” he said adding, “We will not submit weapons until constitution gets drafted.”

“It is totally wrong to demand integration ahead of Constitution Drafting…such demands will only put the peace process in peril”, he threatened.

“History is the witness that there have been betrayals when weapons have been surrendered prior to Constitution drafting”, he added.

On the controversial High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) said Baidya, “It is the overall power center.”

“When the government has become useless it (HLPM) certainly has the right to look for the alternative”, Baidya concluded.
