Nepal Maoists militia presence in cantonments to hinder peace: PM

TGW

Nepal’s Prime Minister Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal has requested the Unified Maoists’ Party leadership to vacate the temporary cantonments currently being occupied by the Maoists’ Militias.

Mr. Nepal addressing a program organized by the Government owned Nepal Television Staffers in Kathmandu, November 8, 2009, also opined that as long as the Maoists Militias continue to remain in the cantonments, the achievement of peace and prosperity in the country would remain a cry in the wilderness.

“Prior we draft the constitution, we should manage the Maoists’ fighters”, he said adding, thus there is the need to regularly organize the Militias Management Special committee meeting.

However, he also said that consensus between major political parties was a must to address the issue.

“I am ever committed to solve the issue at the earliest”, concluded the PM.

To add, the Special Committee meeting slated for Sunday November 8, 2009, could not be held due to the absence of the leaders from the Unified Maoists’ Party, Mr. Barsa Man Pun alias Ananta and Mr. Janardan Sharma alias Prabhakar.

The committee meeting is scheduled to take place every Sunday.

The meeting also could not take place last week due to the absence of both the Maoists’ members.
