Say No to India Forwarded Extradition Treaty: Nepal Experts

TGW

Nepal’s political actors including senior leader of the Unified Maoist party and border experts have jointly asked the hydra-headed coalition government of Nepal not to sign extradition treaty with India.

They have also pointed that since the draft of the Extradition Treaty proposed by India consists of clauses that go against the National Interest of Nepal and thus the treaty should not be signed in haste.

Dina Nath Sharma, the Unified Maoists’ Party spokesperson told a gathering held in Kathmandu, November 5, 2009 that the treaty could not be singed without holding national consensus.

“The Treaty should be signed after the constitution is drafted”, said Mr. Sharma.

Mr. Sharma also revealed that at time of the Maoists’ Party led government, India had exhibited its keen interest in Hydropower and Security Sector of Nepal and also asked the then government to sign the Extradition Treaty.

“We rejected the Indian offer by saying that without having holding national consensus, the government cannot sign the treaty”, he continued.

When asked why the erstwhile Maoists’ led government had approved the Indian proposal to deploy Indian Air Marshals at the Tribhuwan International Airport replied Sharma, “if that decision was wrong we urged the present government to correct decision.”

Likewise, the General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party-Marxist Leninists Mr. C.P. Mainali was of the opinion that the Treaty should be singed only if it was beneficial to Nepal.

“Our relations with other countries will deteriorate if we accept the clause for extradition of Third country nationals”, he added.

Sadhya Bahadur Bhandari of the Janmorcha said the signing of the Treaty will threaten the very existence of Nepal as a nation-state.

Chetendra Jung Himali, Nepal’s border expert said that by pressing Nepal to sign the Treaty India is trying to make Nepal a protectorate a la Bhutan.

He added that walls should be erected between Nepal and India and enforce VISA regime between the two countries.

The program was organized by the Unified Nepal National Front in Kathmandu.

Country is already enslaved, now if this treaty is signed Nepali will be enslaved and anyone handpicked whenever as well as wherever wanted. Proceeding ahead for signing treaty may give rise to many Nathu ram Godse . Say no to extradiction treay even after constitution is drafted and immediately reverse decision of deploying Indian Air Marshal at TIA . Rishi Dhamala was slapped by indian security personnel in Delhi recently and may be slapped even in TIA .What will be the difference? Cancel 1950 treaty ,work towards this . Free water resources to hand them back to Nepalese . Now is most appropiate time add new page in the history of Nepal .
