UNSG Moon taken to task, Nepal leaders warn UN body

TGW

While friends beyond India fervently favor unity among Political actors of Nepal towards meeting their common objectives which is to draft the Constitution and conclude peace process on time, but it tantamount to interference in Nepal, on the other hand, as and when Nepal’s traditional arm twister neighbor India, favors continuation of current government alienating the major stake holder of the Peace Process, the Unified Maoists party, it is heartily taken as an unequivocal support to Nepal.

What a Himalayan paradox?

The 22-Party coalition India structured Government of Nepal has categorically blamed the United Nations for unnecessarily meddling in Nepal’s internal matters.

The Coalition partners have also warned the Global body not to make the issue of government formation in Nepal its prime agenda.

A formal disapproval would be sent to the United Nations in this regard, the meeting presided by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal concluded, November 5, 2009.

The United Nations’ Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon while submitting a political proposal at the Security Council in New York, October 31, 2009, had urged Nepal’s political actors to form a National Unity Government.

UNSG Ban said (sic), “Nepal is on the path of major political and social transformation…a Government of national unity remains desirable for timely promulgation of the country’s new constitution and for the successful integration and rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel.”

On the other hand, the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Sri Rakesh Sood as quoted by Naya Patrika Daily, dated November 3, 2009, had directly favored the continuation of the present government under the command of Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal, a proposition that hopefully would only exacerbate the current political crisis.

Mr. Sood made these close to “interference” remark in Hattimudha VDC of Morang District, November 2, 2009, while inaugurating an Indian Government funded Polytechnic Institute.

However, Sood was criticized neither by the ruling coalition nor by the main opposition Unified Maoists’ party, for his unwarranted remark, for ‘understandable subservient reasons’.

Bandey Mataram!

Says Ram Chandra Poudel, Nepali Congress senior leader, that the UNSG’s statement has deviated from the UN’s mandate in Nepal’s peace process and it is also against the UN’s charter. However, he did not criticize, Rakesh Sood.

“This is Nepal’s internal matters…we will settle issues on our own”, said Poudel adding “this is not the matter of concern for the United Nations or any other foreign country.”

He, however, forgot to remind the UN body “save India”.

Mr. Poudel was talking to reporters after the meeting concluded.

Unfortunately, the UN and its sister organizations in Nepal are praised as and when privately owned NGOs of Nepal’s political actors get the UN funding.

Ms. Poudel, the daughter of Ram Chandra Poudel, is already a MBBS doctor. She enjoyed Indian government’s free scholarship for her medical studies in Delhi.

This perhaps adds some meaning as to why Mr. Poudel did not pounce on Ambassador Sood for his erratic remarks made November 2, 2009.

All the political parties leaders are corrupts. So is Mr Poudel. Do not understand why he need scholarship for his daughter to study MBBS in India when they have money to burn themselves. UN is equally bias towards those who has "strong" arms. It is also not free from corruptions, if not monetary term it is corrupt in term of mentality.
