India in a fix, Blockade or Wall fencing with Nepal?

TGW Analysis

To safeguard their country from the illusionary Chinese threat coming through Nepal in the form of Maoism, the Indian leaders can at best follow the Rajiv Gandhi doctrine and impose an indefinite blockade on Nepal or they can follow the idea aired freshly by none less than Sri Rakesh Sood, who suggests the Indian leadership to construct walls along its border with Nepal to do away with the entrance of the weapons made-in-China in the Indian territories.

However, on both the cases, if at all that takes a formal shape, India will be the looser. This has been proven in 1989 economic blockade that India mercilessly imposed on Nepal and this country survived for all along sixteen months or so.

For China, it will provide good opportunity to extend full fledged support to Nepal and prove to the Nepali nationals that it was their real friend, both in words and deeds, unlike India that changes color (like a chameleon every now and then) and by extension the Nepali citizens will remain ever obliged to China. A permanent tilt to China will be the first and last choice for the Nepalese population albeit under compulsion.

More importantly, India will have to forget its age-old Roti Beti ties with Nepal, mostly visible in the Tarai belt that has provided India with the all time prerogative to impose diktats on Nepal. The Roti-beti ties though remains strong which can’t be denied.

Will India dare construct walls along 1800 Km long border with Nepal? The ball is in India’s court now.

Intelligent brains opine that should there be a referendum, the majority will vote in favor of Mr. Sood’s proposition.

While Ambassador Sood and his New Delhi mandarins are mulling over the proposition to construct walls along Nepal border, one of the senior members of the Indian cabinet has said that the Indian Communist Party (Marxists) was importing Maoists’ fighters from Nepal and providing them with arms to terrorize the Indian population.

The Indian Railway Minister Mrs. Mamta Banerjee who is also the chief of the West Bengal based Trinamool Congress Party, November 4, 2009, said that CPI (M) and the Nepal Maoists were twin brothers.

To recall, the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh and Home Minister P. Chidambaram had clearly indicated that the Indian Maoists were receiving arms and ammunitions from their Nepali counterpart. However, they have failed so far in substantiating their claims.

“They were resorting to killings to terrorize people. Both of them are killers (Marxists and Maoists) and both have no place in the land of West Bengal," Mamta told a party rally in West Bengal.

Only recently one of the senior politburo members of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Maoists had openly accepted that the revolt carried out by outlawed Maoists party of India had full support of the Maoists in Nepal.

However, Mr. C.P. Gajurel, the Maoists’ politburo member in Nepal did not elaborate as to what sort of support was being extended to the Maoists of India by his party in Nepal.

All our neighbors are failed including nepal. Why we should keep open borders with nepal? We should scrap 1950 treaty and send them all to nepal, whether they are living here new or for hundreds of years. Bhutan did the same way and sent them back. Seal the border with nepal and close the chapter

yes this is right to fence the border as nepal maoist-terrorist party supportibg to Indian maoist now, we urge to nepali people to kill all nepal maoist CA members of 240 by guns and these maoist-top leaders must be killed at any cost, prachanda, babauram, badal, baideh must be killed at the first hand. And allso some of UML leaders how are terrorist with maoist also must be killed by UML party to save the truth party, like wise, JN Khanal and Bamdeb Gautam and Ishor Pokhrel area also need to be killed as these are supporting to maoit to topple the present goverment. India must take serious action to wipe out these maoist or be killed on the spot to prevent the further dangeous in india. We urge to nepal army for next coup in nepal to kill all these maoist-terrorist leaders and put them into gas chambers to kill them as soon as possible to save the himalan kingdom again,

Can India construct Walls on borders? Yes she can. India won't loose much, as Nepal will still exist as a buffer state. Nepal cannot survive on imports from China only, by fencing borders India will effectively cut-off Nepal from economically viable land/sea Ports and South-Asian countries, killing Nepalese exports, while China will keep exporting its goods and people to Nepal. As a result India will loose a key ally in this region. But such extreme reactions won't serve best interests of any of the two nations. Why make one more enemy if we can efford to live as friends? India may be a monster, but China isn't the most innocent nation in this world. Choose ur priorities carefully my friends on both sides of the border.

Nina Nani whatever you are..If we can scrap 3 million Illigal Biharis who became Neapli citizen all the problem will be resolved..All the disputes in our Terai region are happening because of these fake Nepali citizens from Bihar..DO not forget, Nepali lauguage is is one of your 8 national language in Indian constitution and it will be impossible to kick all the nepalis out from India because Darjeeling, Asam, Deharadun those all were Nepali territory and Nepalis are living their since bigining of human habitat started in those lands..Now, how can you say all the NEpalis out from India..You guys have maintained bad relationship with all your neighbors..With Bangaladesh in the east, with Sri lanka in the south, with Paks in the West and now with Nepal in the North who were your only friend..All of your surrounding neighbors now think India as a mortal enemy..Preety soon we all are going to unite against India and Invade from 4 corners..So stop encorching the land and mis behaving your small neighbors..Otherwise one day India will be apart..Khalistan one part, Jharkhanda another part,,Andhra another part..piece by piece you guys will be finished.

Nepal needs to be Anschlussed with India. Nepal has really lost its identity after the Maoist came to power. The only way Nepal can save it self is to get anschlussed to India and all Nepalis will be given Indian citizenship with full rights. Indians and Nepalis make a great combination. There is really no difference between the two peoples. I do not see why this artificial border needs to exist between India and Nepal. Tomorrow a Nepali can become Prime Minister or President of India. Nepal needs to eradicate Maoism and move forward as a part of the India Union.

Please go ahead and become another province of China. Stop playing this dirty politics. Indians and Chinese both understand that what is your worth. Don't think that Chinese are fools and will buy your game plans.

Hi Nina, I just fail understand what do you exactly know and how can you say boot all the Nepalese you are forgetting the fact that the we have a good numbers infact a very good numbers of Indians with dual citizenship living in Nepal and what makes you think that India will sever all ties with Nepal had that been the case I am sure right now Nepal would be a much peaceful and better country and not forgetting the many advantages that India has by keeping its border free with Nepal infact if one wore to look at the size and population boom of India and the number of Indian beggars that we see thriving in Kathmandu one can imagine why the Nepal India border is still opened not to talk of greener pasture the number of Indian Origin people that get to go to most of the Middle East country for greener pastures. All this fact shows that by not scrapping the treaty we are at loss and it is your gain and most important thing that I forgot to mention the various unfavorable water treaties that India signed with Nepal. So do you still want the treaty to be scrapped about scraping and last but not the least if you are still so bent in booting the Nepali people then why not give back all the places that were given to India by the Treaty that was signed in 1929 like Sikkim, Nainital, Kumaon, Garhwal, and Darjeeling. You people talk so much about Nepal, Nepal and Nepal. A big country like yours in term of area talking about cross terrorism and helping the Indian Maoist so if Nepal was supplying the weapons as per your capable Minister Mamta Benerjee then she should prove it because if I am right one of your political leaders Mr. Yechuri had very clearly stated that it was Mamta Benerjee who had a nexus with the Maoist so now what do you have to say and one more thing if one is to take that weapons were supplied so what was BSF doing when the weapons were supplied, sleeping ?sleeping. And more over I fail to understand so what if we have ties with China who are you to dictate terms. At present when the world is becoming so small every country has a tie with each other otherwise what is India doing in UNO. Just because Nepal is going through a bad phase it does not mean that it will always remain the same infact a decade and half ago India was also going through the same phase so you never know when the table turns so it is always good to be humble. Got it.

As an Indian, i must say i am quite surprised at the constant anti-India tilt from Nepal. I agree that we should scrap the 1950 treaty and lets boot all those nepalis living in India out. Lets see how you people like trying to find jobs in beijing! We treated you like our own citizens and despise us? We should sever all trade and other links with you. Got to China. you might find its very easy to invite the Chinese in but very hard to get them to leave.

If Nepali major political parties are really patrotics they should strongly raise the 1950 Treaty. Sagauli Treaty was not treaty between present India and Nepal but it was treaty between East India company and Nepal. Now East India Company is already away from Indian in 1947 That is why if major poltical parties of India and Indian government are hebalf of rule of international law, they should immediaately handover the lost Nepali territory. Otherwise India has no right to build the fence in boarder of Nepal and India. That is why we appeal to Nepali najor politicians do not quarrel like dog. I appeal to Prachand if present government is not any more mandate to rule the country, it will be good poltical morality to put the ABISWASKO PRASTAB to Madhav Nepal government. We people want Pranchad but people do not any more different kind of ways which are doing. We appeal to you (Prahand) peaeful lay out is only way to solve the problems to any democratic country in the world. We people always want to live peace and security without any gun and bullet sounds. China and India are developing quite much but our political parties are day by day being the Hanuman Bhakta over Indian government. When you (political parties) could finish such kind of cultural tradition from Nepal. In this way you political parties could not materialize the 1950 Treaty over India.
