Nepal Govt can’t afford to toe Maoist agenda: Minister Pokhrel

TGW

Nepal’s Minister of Information and Communications, Shankar Pokharel, has said that the Maoists have now only two options left with them: either to embrace the politics of consensus or go in for a revolt.

Minister Pokharel made these remarks Yesterday, September 16, 2009, in Panutai, Kabhre district.

The minister from the UML quota opines that the government can’t afford to have sympathy for the Maoists’ agenda.

“This is just absurd”, says Mr. Pokharel.

“Neither they want to follow our agenda nor the government can afford to toe their schema”, said the minister adding, “the reluctance of the Maoists in practicing the politics of consensus does tell that they-the Maoists-want to wage a fresh revolt”.

The occasional utterances of some of the Maoist leaders that the “political parties of Nepal were at their daggers drawn simply because of the absence of the Royal Institution in the country”, were very serious and grave matter, added Mr. Pokharel.

The Maoists are solely responsible for the Nepal Army Chief episode because they wanted to dismiss the CoAS without enjoying the consensus from the coalition partners in government, continued the Minister.

He questioned, “Whether the Maoists’ will abide by the 22 party’s decision to sack the chief of the Maoist Army-Mr. Pasang?

Indicating that the delay in the draft of the new constitution was only due to some serious differences in between the government and the Maoists on certain critical issues of national importance.

Summing up, Minister Pokharel says that the widening gap between the government and the Maoist’s line of considerations clash with each other which has distanced the politics of consensus.
