Maoists want Nepal’s National Flag Changed
The Maoists first demanded religious freedom, later an ancient Hindu Nation was declared Secular under their pressure. Sometime later the Maoists demanded abolition of the Nepali Monarchy and the monarch packed for Nagarjun Jungles on June 11, 2008, and similarly Nepal was declared a Republic on May 28, 2008.
Now, the Maoists want to change the National Flag. Will that happen this time? Will they succeed this time as well?
Nepal’s Political Parties represented in the Constituent Assembly, September 16, 2009, discussed the type of National Flag for the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
The major parties have been divided over the Type and style of the national Flag that needs to be mentioned in the Constitution which is yet to be written.
The Maoists Party on September 16, 2009, forwarded the proposal to change the National Flag at a meeting of the Constitution Draft Sub Committee of the Constitution Drafting Committee.
The Maoists’ party said that since the country has embraced Federalism, the National Flag must also be changed suiting to the political changes.
Dev Gurung, a senior Maoist leader addressing the meeting said that “all those countries that have adopted federalism have Stars in their flags representing the number of Federal units”.
He also said that the present national flag only represents forgone Monarchy of Nepal.
The Maoists’ proposal was accepted by the chairman of the Dalit Janajati Party Bisendra Paswan and independent CA member Sadarul Miya Haq.
Hridayesh Tripathi and Laxman Lal Karna from pro-Madhesi parties demanded further discussion over the issue of the national flag.
The UML, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party and ML had rejected the Maoists’ proposal.

i don wan 2 change nepal's flag......T_T
the matter of fact is that, the flag that we have now holds the emblem of the Ranas and Shah Regimes to Moon and Sun sign respectively. if the socio-economic status of nepal is been changed, why not change the national flag too?? let's make it more people oriented and reflective to the current change to the country.
we shouldn't be that rigid on this topic. let's get pragmatic on this, as the flag with symbols who represent the rulers should be changed.
Dear editor,
Those who like to change our Nepalese national Flag, they are traitors. They are not talking for the sake of Nepal. Actually, they are destroyers and anarchists who want abolish all the national identity of Nepal. After the regime of Maoist, now, we have culprits & antinationalist Regime in Nepal. The Maoists are changing their hues and showing new dramas. Nepalese people do not want any kind of confused & communist authoritarianism. The concerns of the people are political stability, peace, justice and good governance. A democratic political system is always put at the highest echelon because only a good and well-established political system can lead the masses by determining appropriate social and economic systems of the state through concrete policies and programmed. But because of the inept and directionless political leaders and their deprived mentality, the country has still not found a clear political direction.
Why Maoists are interested to disturb the Nepalese national glory? In Sanskrit, Hindu means 'Hi'= Sun, 'Indu'= moon. Nepalese national flag is also decorated by Sun and Moon. The triangular flag with the Sun and Moon is based on the principles of Hinduism. The national flag of Nepal has its own identity and recognition in the world. The Nepalese flag is very inclusive and represents to all the castes and tribes insisting the nature. The flag of Nepal is the symbol of unity in diversity. The Maoist wants to change the national flag. That is why; the intention of Maoist is to abolish the identity of Nepalese nationality. To change the national flag is irrational. The Nepalese people believe, Nepal will remain eternal till there is the Sun and Moon.
I am very sorry; Nepal has always shown goodwill towards India. But the Indian intention is quite suspicious no matter the co-operations between two countries. India professes one thing and acts contrary to it which always gives a room to suspect its role. Nepal shares 1,880 kilometres of open border with India. It has over the years built numerous structures in the vicinity of no man’s land which is against the international norms. Indian is lifting the Maoists in Nepal. Now, why Indian PM is going to exercise in suicidal conspiracy? Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh this week spoke about growing Maoist strength in India. Mr. Singh also accused that Indian Maoist 'terrorists' are getting supports from Nepali territory. In a live radio talk show, I have analyzed the issue based on India's double standards in dealing with 'terrorists.' The radio talk show covers the aspects ranging from India's pressure on Nepal government on trade; security threats; border; handling of Maoists and other political forces.
S.D Muni (Professor of J.N.U and the policymaker of south block) in his article 'Dealing with a new Nepal' in The Hindu Daily on 15th September 2008 has conceded that India had provided one billion rupees for running the agitation.' With those resources along with the guide-lines of south-block, they could forge the Jana-Anandolan. This was the mysterious design for our country. Recently (29 Jun 2009 The Kathmanu Post), Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukharjee accepted that the Maoist party which was an extremist party and chose violence, was convinced by India and compelled to join mainstream politics. We also convinced other mainstream political parties (Nepali Congress, UML) to form government by including Maoist party also. Till then Maoist was protected and armed by Indians and the Congress & UML were almost failure to run the government in their own capacity because their governance between 1990 and 2002 was a complete failure. It is likely to recur. The Maoists are responsible all about the anarchism.
The secularism & republic is not the current issue in Nepal, the main problem is only how to save the country from corruptions & foreign intervention. We are suffering from daylight robbery, killings and insecurity of the public life even after handing over the state power to those who led the agitation. What is the cause? Due to the absence of the King, all the traitors are ruling in regime.
In the context of Nepal, the authorized guardian of the country is the King. We view that effort made both by the King and the people will only enhance the nation & democracy. But the leaders did not like to understand the reality and they declared republic under foreign pressure. The republic, secularism, federalism is becoming the main problem of the country's stability. To safeguard the nationality & democracy of Nepal and for Indian's culture and security, the King ought to be re-established, and the parliament should be strong. Equally, the political leaders must be patriot & be true to what they say. Nepal has become the playground of foreigners the problem will only be resolved when the King and the people's leaders will be together in regime.
Thank you.
All the best

Is it the country's name tomorrow??...What you need to change is your useless mentality...Is this what New Nepal is all about...People Supremacy..Go to h*ll you monkeys. How upsetting...this people are destroying our beautiful country.

They have to die
why do we need to change our national flag..???
Meaning of the Flag
The flag of Nepal is the only national flag which is not rectangular, being based upon two separate pennants which belonged to rival branches of the Rana dynasty, which formerly ruled the country. The two pennants were first joined in the last century, but it was not adopted as the official flag until 1962, when a constitutional form of government was established.
The moon in the upper part represents the royal house. The sun in the lower part symbolizes a branch of the Rana family, members of which acted as prime ministers until 1961.

Yes...our flag seems too odd..and we feel humiliation infront of International community.And...country's name "Nepal" also seems too traditional and old fashioned...so lets change the name.."United States of Nepal" or "Maopal" would be appropriate and practical.
not only national flag which represent so called hindu king and hindu nation and hindu stup...y in nepal, there are lot more to change to address as whole nepal n nepali....!!!!
Maoist please please for god sake do not even think about it to change our flag this is belongs to all nepalese people. I am really fade off with Maoist.
hang those maoist, thier inclusion in politic,in meanwhile will be proved as a curse fot the nation. for power, maoist are ready to ....
why don't these people concentrate on the development of the nation rather than changing the national anthm, the flag, names of streets bla bla bla. What about no more bandhs (strikes)? What about no more of the likes of 'YCL' killers? Most of all, what about freedom and security? THINK you no good sobs.
It's TOO MUCH! No patriot and nationalist Nepali can accept it. It tells more about Maoists- where from they are directed and their clandestine secessionist move. The uniqe National Flag is our history and pride. Secesionist elements along with Maoists should know that people can't further tolerate their anarchy and anti-national activities. No political parties have the right to change the National Flag. Only Nepali people by a Referendum can decide on it. There are many more issues to go to the poples decision. Hatya, atanka, lutmarka naike Raktapipasu Maoist jathalai Desh tukraune license Nepali janatale diyeka chhainan.
Time has come to crush these anti-national parties and groups.
If the age-old National Flag is changed by those so called elected CA members, the reactionaries & foreign stooges, believe me thousands of Nepalis would fight against them. Maoists and secessionists’ "Chihan" is approaching closer. Je man lagyo tehi garne chhut chhaina.
Nepali Jhandako lagi Ragat Chahiye Din Tayar Chhu. Down with anti-Nepali elements.
Dambar
Politicians are into un-necessary changes in the name of New Nepal. I guaranty, some day these politicians will demand to change or replace Nepali citizens with aliens. Therefore, Nepali people must understand such conspiracy and rise up against these anti national elements in these political parties.
God bless Nepal.
Yes no one day you will also offer to change name of country from "NEPAL" to something else which represents the political change in country.

Why do we need to change our national flag as it is the emblem of we nepalese people's bravery, calm and soothing behaviour. It is the only one rectangular flag in the whole world. It is very unique. If these maoists leaders want to change our national flag then they also have to be ready to lose their prestige. They will also regret for it one day.
