We can destroy Kathmandu in minutes: Nepal Maoist leader

TGW

A Maoist Party Constituent Assembly member Mr. Chandra Bahadur Thapa making a threat loaded statement in Banepa of Kavre District said on Monday, June 8, 2009, that the Maoists’ Party still possesses weapons that can devastate the entire Kathmandu valley.

“We have safeguarded those weapons that can destroy Kathmandu”, said Thapa addressing a gathering.

“Now even the incumbent prime minister is not safe”, he said adding, “If the Maoists are further teased we can take action against any one on our own.”

Mr. Thapa and some influential Maoists’ leaders led a rally of Maoists cadres in Benepa that destroyed the UML district bureau on Monday.

The Maoists cadres from nearby districts, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur merged in Banepa and held a Baton march.

A day earlier on Sunday, with the Maoists cadres going on rampage in Banepa, forcing locals to close down their shops and vandalizing parked vehicles, the locals in retaliation pelted stones and violently clashed with the Maoist cadres and vandalized the Maoists contact office.

The Maoists district leaders blamed that the locals who had vandalized the Maoists contact office were primarily the UML cadres, thus the Maoists in retaliation vandalized the UML party office on Monday, June 8, 2009.

Reporting a comment is fine as long as you place it in context. This is obviously a threat to the other parties and should not be taken seriously from a citizens point of veiw. Remember it is Mr Nepal that has undemocratically seized control.

Don't forget that if Sri Lankan Army can wipe LTTE out in 1 month (LTTE had much more logistics and weapons and army) then our Royal Nepal Army (we still prefer to call RNA)can destroy you ... within a week

Maoists are no supermen and there are many who wish to protect Nepal and it's throne (don't mistake it with monarchy) from those willing for this adventure. Must wish Wet dreams to maoists ;)

Well,well,well...this is only because there is no rule of law in the country. The Maoists better know advantage of coercive strategy. But they should realize that this strategy does not work for long period. when threshold of people's endurance will be broken by such a nasty manoeuvre,no one can stop them. Then it will sweep all who wants to establish there authoritarion regime by damaging and rupturing all machinary of the regime in disguising face of civilian supremacy,

He is right.Maoist could do everything because they got 100% time to rebuild their militants and other network.Except Maoistm, most of political parties were against 240 year old monarchical institution. In this way one by one they could finish the .... but main thing it will not be fault of maoist it will be fault of other political parties. But we appeal to concerning party people would like to live in peace and security but people have not right but political parties are running the people. that is why political parties have supremacy than people. We people should accept anything happen in this country. But we people hope Prachanda, Baburam and Mohan Vaidhya will not repeat the people's war as earleir but if they are right they should follow the non-vilonece way to change the society.

Don;t you guys have any love for your country? Why don;t you kill the BSF who are encroaching on our land? How can you even say you will destroy kathmandu? Unpatriotic pigs. Love the nation, love the national property. Concentrate on economic reforms and land reforms. Shame on you for making such comments. And shame on those people who support his views.
