Sonia greets ex-Nepal King, Red carpet welcome in New Delhi

TGW

Nepal’s former Monarch Gyanendra who is currently in New Delhi, after attending a marriage ceremony in Madhya Pradesh, followed by the Jungle Safari and visit to several Hindu pilgrimage sites in Gujarat, has met with the Indian Congress-I President Sonia Gandhi, Wednesday March 18, 2009.

Ex-Nepal King arrived in New Delhi, Tuesday, March 17, 2009.

Prior to his arrival in New Delhi, Gyanendra also met with the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shiva Raj Singh Chouhan.

The former Monarch talked to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for over an hour in the presence of Dr. Karan Singh, who heads the International Relation Committee of the Congress I party.

The meeting took palace at the personal residence of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi located in 10 Janpath, New Delhi.

“Red Carpet welcome was thrown in the honor of former Nepal King when he arrived in 10 Janpath”, say reports, though the Congress I spokesperson later clarified that the meet of the former Nepal monarch with Mrs. Gandhi was not at all a political one.

Dr. Karan Singh- special envoy of the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Man Mohan Singh, had advised the former King of Nepal, mid-April 2006, to handover power to the political parties of Nepal at time of Peoples’ Uprising-II.

Dr. Singh threw a lavish luncheon in the honor of former Nepal King at his personal residence in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, after the former King met with Sonia Gandhi.

Other senior Congress leaders were also present in the luncheon.

The Congress I spokesperson told the media that the meeting between Sonia and Gyanendra was arranged at the request of Gyanendra.

To add, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala who was in New Delhi recently, instead of his repeated requests to meet Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Man Mohan Singh was not granted audience. He, however, got instructions from both the Indian leaders through the Indian foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Former King Gyanendra will return home soon though date is not fixed, reports conclude.

Sources in Kathmandu claim that he could return home on March 21, 2009.

The people must be allowed to decide by national vote if they want a monarchy or not. The present system of the republic of nepal has been imposed on the people by the politicians.

Pashupati Shumser Rana , Chairman, Rastriya Prajatantra Party
Political polarization is not there as yet. To remind you, the Maoists have come only after a people’s war but not the rest of the political parties. It could be this factor which may have brought or to come to surface certain differences with the Maoists over some political issues. More..
