Nepal: Peace process in danger, Maoists chief Prachanda

TGW

Comrade Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Maoists Party chief has in a threat loaded statement said that the “newly found amity between the Nepali Congress, United Marxist Leninist and the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum” will not only create hurdles for the Constitution making process but will  put the entire peace process in jeopardy.

Comrade Dahal said, to put in his own words, “The unnatural and unholy alliance between the NC, UML and the MJF has put a big question mark on the constitution making process and will bear negative impact on the entire peace process in the future”.

Comrade Dahal made these remarks talking to the reporters after attending a training program held in the Government’s Secretariat Singh Durbar for the Maoists’ central committee members, July 20, 2008.

“As regards the election of the president is concerned, the NC, UML and the MJF have reached an unnatural alliance which has put the agreements including the 12-Points agreements at stake”.

“We have made it clear to Jhal Nath Khanal- the UML chief that such an alliance would put the entire peace process in a great danger”.

“I am confident that Ram Raja Prasad Singh will be the first president of the republic…we are currently in negotiations with some of the parties regarding his emergence as the country’s first ever president”, said Comrade Dahal.

The Presidential election is scheduled for today, July 21, 08.

However, Comrade Jhal Nath Khanal talking to a local television channel said that the Maoists are still resorting to the politics of intimidation and pressure.

“The Maoists must abandon authoritarian mindset in order to continue the politics of consensus and that they must respect the norms of a democratic system…however there is no way the UML can support the Maoists candidate for the presidential election…it is too late”, Khanal added.

To add, Comrade Dahal met with the chief of the Nepal Peasants Workers Party, Mr. Narayan Man Bijukche Rohit in Bhakatapur yesterday July 20, 08. However, reports are that the NMKP has made it clear to the Maoists Chief that his party will remain out of the voting yet again.

The Maoists’ leadership on Sunday met with the leaders of the Tarai Madhesh Lokatantrik Party, Nepal Sadvawana Party and Nepal Dalit party.
