Madhesi demands will be addressed in due course

TGW

Comrade Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai, the Maoists second man-in-command talking to the Bimarsha Weekly, today, June 27, 2008, commenting on the Madhesi demands for the Madhesh Autonomous State has said that the demand will be properly addressed by the new Constitution that will be drafted by the Constituent Assembly.

“Let us solve the issue together… not that we should stop the proceedings of the Constituent Assembly to add to up the problems that are already aplenty”.

“We will try to address all the demands at a time and those will be realized through the new constitution…however we cannot address the demands separately”.

“The demands of the Madheshis, Magarat, Kirat and Tharu community will be addressed together…it is not possible to address the Madhesi issue first ignoring the others”, Dr. Bhattarai said.

“I would like to remind that the demand for autonomy, self rule, state restructuring were primarily raised by our party and we are totally committed to that”.

Responding to yet another question, Dr. Bhattarai says it is highly unlikely that the UML and the Maoists would agree for elevating, Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal, as the country’s first president.

“Politically, between Madhav Ji and Girija Babu there is no considerable difference…we want a Madhesi or a Women, a Janajati or a Dalit to lead the country as the first president”.
