Nepal’s cock-fight begins

TGW Analyst

Comrade Prachanda has begun exhibiting his numerical strength that his party bagged this time during the Constituent Assembly poll in order to send threat loaded signals to the other parties who trailed behind his party.

That he has become rather aggressive and restless becomes evident when he thunders, “the losers cant’ be the choosers” and that both the posts of the President and that of the Prime Minister must go to the party that has sizeable numerical strength as compared to the others.

This means that Comrade Prachanda would wish to assume both the prestigious posts on his persona.

The Nepali Congress and the UML as usual have told the Maoists point blank that they will in no way allow the Maoists to bag both the posts at a time.

The fact is that the Nepali Congress can’t survive even for a single second if not in power. So is the UML.

The Maoists adamancy and Prachanda’s thundering warnings aimed at the NC and the UML have made the “losers” some what unnerved.

More unnerved is the Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood, an undiplomatic diplomat by all means, who is running helter and skelter to manage the posts to such a political persona who could be “bend” as and when he so desired.

Mr. Sood is seriously considering on how to manage the Nepali demands for the abrogation of the most hated 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship in its favor once again if pressed hard by the Nepali leaders in the days ahead and thus he is in search of a Nepali “MURGA” who could hush-hush the matter when in office either of the Prime Minister or that of the President.

No less worried is the Nepal’s National Army which has already signaled the Prime Minister under STEROID that the institution of the Army would prefer to be under the command of the President.

The army’s insistence is also encouraging the Nepali Congress and the UML stalwarts to find a suitable political personality who could fit in to the shoes of the now dethroned King as the first ever President of the country.

Thus there is Himalayan sort of “cock-fighting” currently going on in between the “victor” and the “defeated” ones.

Which of the two prevail over whom in the next few days finally will be no less interesting to observe as it has been the regular habit of Nepali leaders to fight over acquiring “posts”?

Rumors are that the ailing and frail Prime Minister Koirala has been engaged in efforts on how to elevate Dr. Shekhar Koirala and Ms. Sujata Koirala to the ranks of the CA parliamentarian from the remaining 26 persons to be nominated by the incumbent government.

Both Dr. Shekhar and MS. Sujata had lost the CA poll.

Perhaps this should explain father Koirala’s excessive lust for power and the greed to elevate the ranks of his family members.

No wonder if the two Koirala’s are spotted in the next session of the CA meet?
If so, then only Nepal can be turned into a new Republic. Bear with this Koirala family usual habit.
