Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam claims that the Nepal government is presently carrying out rescue and relief activities with 12 helicopters.

“The government has six helicopters, one Mi-17, one Super Puma and remaining are five-seater helicopters. We have also hired six helicopters from local operators. We have all together twelve helicopters for the ongoing rescue and relief operation.”

“The Indians have sent 14 helicopters,” he says and adds, “With only twelve helicopters we are working ten times more than the 14 helicopters from India.”

Minister Gautam will soon be “micro-managed, it appears.

“Afno baneko aafnai huncha…Bahiraka Bhaneko Bahirakai huncha,” also comments Home Minister Gautam.

(Our own are our own…others are others)

“I have to appreciate the work being done by the Army, Police, Civil Servants and the government secretaries,” also said Gautam.

Gautam made the remark in an exclusive interview with veteran journalist Rishi Dhamala of the Reporters’ Club.

When asked if the allegation that India was interfering in the internal matters of Nepal in the name of providing relief to the victims of devastating earthquake replies Gautam, “No. This is not true. They are here primarily to support us in relief and rescue operation. The government has decided that all agencies, governmental, non-governmental, military and civil that are presently in Nepal should leave the country. The government will manage to send them out. We are done with the rescue phase. We do not need foreign army in the ongoing relief operation”.
