Nepal: PM not interested in clinging to power, claims Madhav

Telegraph Nepal

A day after Chairman Pushpa Kamal aka Prachanda of Unified Maoists presented three alternatives to the highly restive opposition parties, Prime Minister Baburam met with United Marxist Leninist leader Madhav Nepal at the latter’s private residence in Koteshwar, Kathmandu and made it clear that he has no intention to continue remain seated obstructing the process of consensus between parties.

BRB intrigues.

“Prachanda ji had proposed formation of election government under Babruam’s leadership. Baburam ji claimed today that he was not at all interested to continue as the Prime Minister of the country".

PM Bhattarai further said, "I am not certain if he was speaking from the heart but he talked on a different line. He said he is not the obstacle as is being publicly presented", claimed Madhav Nepal.

The Dahal proposal contains three different alternatives, first being revival of the Constituent Assembly after resolving issues of disputes, secondly, continuation of present government led by Baburam as the national unity government which would conduct elections and thirdly, formation of an election government under the leadership of independent personalities.

A new twist in Nepali politics once again.

  • By now it is very clear to everybody that in the real sense the Maoists fought for the change for good! It has almost achieved its aim therefore they cannot leave half way! Dr Bhattarai leaving chair unconditionally is unthinkable. In the fairness of the achievements/changes which have been brought in so far;everything done or achieved so far has got to be ensured by way of putting things in writing by way of declaration and remaining things to be completed after new govt is formed after election. Therefore PM's insistence is valid.
