The Unified Maoists Party has rebuked media reports that claimed the other day that party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had proposed immediate presidential election.
Addressing a press meet in Kathmandu October 20, 2012, party spokesperson Agni Sapkota said that Chairman Prachanda’s remarks were distorted by the media.
Shifting the blame.
It had been reported earlier referring to a meeting with Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala that both Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Baburam had proposed presidential election.
The news may have scared, let’s presume, President Dr. Yadav to the hilt.
Sapkota clarified, “If CA election is to be held once again then presidential election is also to be conducted. He did not demand presidential election prior to the Constituent Assembly election.”
Nevertheless, media reports had it that Chairman Pushpa Kamal in the meeting with Sushil had claimed that with the dissolution of the constituent assembly, the term of the current president too has expired.
Some constitutional logic is there.
