Nepal: President must act fast like a guardian, says Pokhrel

Telegraph Nepal

Nobody knows as to why the NC and the UML leaders have been pushing the President towards a likely confrontation with the ruling Maoist government?

In a routine manner, leaders of these two very special parties tentatively have been encouraging President Dr. Yadav to pounce upon this government.

Yet the President, a modest political persona elected from the NC quota, understands the consequences if and when he takes any steps to unseat this government as the incumbent PM Bhattarai has several times warned the President not to exceed his constitutional limits or will have to face some “music” unheard so far.

Bhattarai is correct when he says so as both the office of the Prime Minister and the President remain in a mysterious state which could neither be taken as legal entity or otherwise because the body which elected both of the offices died a very ignominious death last May end.

The status quo will perhaps remain.

Constitutionally President can’t sack the PM. Instead, if the President takes any such steps misery will befall upon him instantly as the former rebels understand on how to destabilize the entire country. They have the NOIDA trained expertise.

Yet Ishwar Pokhrel of the UML, October 17, 2012, once again has tried to tease PM Bhattarai by stating that “as the Guardian of the nation, the President must play a meaningful role in order to bring back the constitutional aberration to its original leak and also to make the parties to act in an efficient manner.

What he means by meaningful role?

A lame duck President has thus been told to act what is not in his grip constitutionally speaking.

Look the fun.

Mr. Pokhrel yet claims that the “UML is not encouraging the President to become active but has only signaled him to play the role of a guardian”.

What does it then mean Mr. Pokhrel? Isn’t it that you are encouraging the President to stage a Coup d’état?

Talking to some media men, October 17, 2012, Mr. Pokhrel opined that the country can get rid of the present ailments only if, firstly, Babu Ram government is unseated; secondly, if a national unity government is formed and third, if dates for fresh election are announced.

This he claims to have been the Roadmap of the UML.

Or else, the UML will have to take some ugly and inappropriate measures to kick out this government from the state authority, Pokhrel threatens.

Pokhrel has included street protest option as well.

Analysts fail to understand that how the NC and the UML will throw PM BRB from the coveted Chair through street protests?

In essence, the UML is decaying and the NC is already wheezing. But yet think big?

The NC and the UML perhaps have got the point as to what the analysts mean to say.

Analysts advise the President not to get carried away by the seductions of the NC and the UML simply because when BRB will pounce upon him, none of these parties will come to his rescue. At best Dr. Yadav can talk to the parties and tell them all not to invite trouble for them all.

Trouble is already in the making.
