Telegraph Nepal

Ghatasthapana---first day of Greatest Festival of Nepal, Bada Dashain is being observed all over the country beginning today, October 16, 2012.

Ghatasthapana-literally meaning clay-pot establishing with Hindu rituals begins by planting Jamara-grains of barley.

The Jamara is a sacred grass germinated from the Barley or Maize seeds which have special significance for Hindus the world over.

On Dashami (the 10th day of the festival), elders put Tika and Jamara on the forehead and bless the youngsters for a happy and prosperous life.

The Telegraph Weekly and telegraphnepal.com family would like to wish Hindus World Over and our well wishers a very Happy and Prosperous Bada Dashin-2069.

Shail Putri is the name of Durga Bhavani today.
