The newly appointed German Ambassador to the Nepali Court, Frank Meyke, has said that “Germany and the whole European Union hope and expect the spirit of consensus to prevail regarding progress in the constitutional reform process in Nepal”.
The Ambassador of the federal Republic of Germany further stated that “a Constituent Assembly creating a new inclusive democratic constitution without delay would certainly be a decisive positive political signal for Germany, the whole European Union and for foreign investors that Nepal is progressing on its way to a stable democratic and prosperous country”.
This does mean that the entire European Union including Germany would wish to see the revival of the now dead CA body or at best prefer to have the election once again for a new CA to happen in Nepal.
Back home, several political parties reject the notion of reviving the now dead CA body. A host of parties now even prefer to go in for a fresh parliamentary poll.
Nepali Congress point man, Arjun Narsingh K.C just yesterday ridiculed the talk for the revival of the dead CA body.
The Ambassador made these remarks while observing the “Day of German national Unity”, October 10, 2012, evening at a reception organized by the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The German Unity day falls on October 3, 2012.
“The national anthems of Nepal and Germany we just have been singing and listening to are both calling on us to strive for unity, justice and freedom in our countries. These are core values of Nepalis and Germans alike. They are the foundation of democracy, prosperity and happiness and they are the foundation for the further strengthening of our very good bilateral relations”, Ambassador Frank Meyke opined.
Tonight we are celebrating the reunification of Germany. We Germans remember with joy and gratitude the regaining of our national unity 22 years ago after decades of national division. We are, in particular, celebrating the courageous stand for freedom that hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took in East Germany in the fall of 1989, at great personal risk, knocking down the Berlin Wall and, in a peaceful revolution, liberating themselves from an oppressive one-party dictatorship, the German envoy recalled the past events that finally enhanced the grand unification of the two German States.
‘We congratulate the democratic political forces of Nepal on their consensus bringing about the successful completion of the integration of the Maoist combatants. Germany and the whole European Union hope and expect the same spirit of consensus to prevail regarding progress in the constitutional reform process. A Constituent Assembly creating a new inclusive democratic constitution without delay would certainly be a decisive positive political signal for Germany, the whole European Union and for foreign investors that Nepal is progressing on its way to a stable democratic and prosperous country’ the German envoy noted.
Germany will continue to support all efforts in Nepal strengthening democracy and human rights, as much as we can, Ambassador Meyke assured the attending participants.
Just ten days after having had the honor to present my credentials to His Excellency the President, our get-together provides me with the best possible opportunity to introduce myself to you as new ambassador of Germany in Nepal, added the German Ambassador.
“Together with our whole team representing the German government in Nepal, the German embassy and German Development Cooperation, GIZ and KfW, I will spare no efforts helping to maintain and strengthen the very good relations between our two countries.
