Nepal: Dahal favors dead CA revival, Sushil says Nay

Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Unified Maoists Party has formally forwarded the proposal to revive the now dead constituent assembly at his meeting with Nepali Congress leaders, October 8, 2012.

Present at the meeting also was Nepali Congress’ Senior Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba who quoted Chairman Dahal as saying, “Till the other day he was in favor of holding another election today he proposed reviving the Constituent Assembly.”

“I am happy with this proposal because I have always been in favor of reviving the Constituent Assembly.”

Sources quote Chairman Dahal as further saying, “We had indeed favored holding another round of election. But, analyzing present political situation and the lasting impact it is having upon the country, I propose revival of constituent assembly.”

Sushil in reply told, “You have been changing your decision every now and then, which has already imparted negative impression in the public regarding the political parties. I am not in favor of reviving the CA.”

The Unified Maoists leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ told the reporters, “the two parties have agreed to become more flexible.”

The meeting was held at NC President Sushil Koirala’s private residence.

Only the other day the parties had agreed to hold another round of elections.

Also present at the meeting was NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
