Nepal: NC to embrace CA poll only if party commands next government

A day after major political parties claimed to have reached an agreement to hold another round of Constituent Assembly election, Nepali Congress has strongly objected to the Unified Maoists Party’s claim over the leadership of the election government.

The hitch first.

“We are not in favor of another CA election if the election government is not formed under our leadership”, Nepali Congress leaders concluded at an informal meeting held at party president Sushil Koirala’s personal residence in Kathmandu, Thursday September 20, 2012.

Very lose claim indeed. If post then election? Shame.

To recall, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai’s aide Devendra Poudel ‘Sunil’ had claimed that the parties have already provided their clear nod to give continuity to present government.

Sunil claimed, “The parties agreed to transform the present government led by Baburam ji into an election government”.

The Nepali Congress has rebuked the Maoists argument.

NC’s Dilendra Badu tells the media, “To claim that election government will be continuation of the present government is a conspiracy not to hold CA election and to draft the constitution.”
