Nepal: NC moots idea of referendum for federalism, Deuba team absent

Telegraph Nepal

The Nepali Congress party has concluded that referendum is a must to decide whether single identity based ethnicity or multi-ethnicity should be made the basis of the federal structure.

However, say critics, it is not certain until when the party will stick to the referendum theory.

Reports claim that some influential leaders of the party held a meeting September 13, 2012, which was chaired by party president Sushil Koirala wherein the leaders made such a decision. The meeting was held at Koirala’s private residence in Maharajgunj.

Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, General secretary duo Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula and leaders of the likes of Ram Saran Mahat and Arjun Nar Singh K.C. were present. None representing Deuba panel were present at the meet. This must have some meaning.

The NC fresh stand will be forwarded at the next three party meeting, claimed Arjun Nar Singh K.C.

High placed sources claim that the Deuba team is hell bent on uprooting the Koirala family from the Congress once and for all.
