Nepal: NC can forge national unity but inner party accord first

Many people do not know that former Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba cuts a joke at others at times and in the process, unfortunately, himself becomes the person to humiliate his own party. He understands it later when the damage has already been done.

Yet he made analysts to laugh yesterday, July 30, 2012, when he told the Nepal Congress District Presidents’ gathering in Barahbise that “only the NC can get rid the country of the present day political ailments”.

This was his claim and thus we must not have anything to differ with his contention as it is his democratic right.

However, he must have compelled all to laugh when he said while addressing the same gathering that “Nepali Congress can act like a catalyst in forging national consensus and that it is the bounden duty of the NC to make serious efforts in this regard. But added Deuba by stating that for having that national consensus to take a formal shape, the NC party must first have internal party consensus”.

“Unless we have consensus inside our own party, there is no question of the NC making efforts aimed at having national consensus in broader sense”, this is how he made all to giggle presumably.

Yet Deuba implied that his party was plagued with intra-party differences and that he was not at all happy with the fresh portfolio distribution in the NC paraphernalia.

Reports claim that Sushil Koirala has now his upper hand in the NC committees which automatically means that Deuba has been pushed to a minority.

Fresh struggle must have begun. The NC under Sushil will not allow Deuba to fight the Nepal PM candidacy, if and when Bhattarai resigns.Deuba's chances have now been capped.

Making the amusement session to come to an end, Deuba then pounced upon the Maoists.

He said of the Maoists that though the party has entered into the parliamentary practices yet the party’s acts and behaviour yet remain under the ambit of suspicion.

Nevertheless, Deua made a million dollar declaration wherein he said that a country ever remains unstable sans the Constitution.

By the way Deuba also opined that he was in favour of giving a new lease of life to the now dead CA body for some two to three weeks.

Mrs. Deuba will, if this does happen, will once again become the CA member.
