Caretaker Prime Minister Baburam claimed that there was no alternative before him but to participate at the Rio+20 Summit being held in Rio de Janerio of Brazil.
“My trip should not be made a controversial issue as I am taking part in the meet as the head of the state at the invitation of United Nation’s General Secretary Ban Ki Moon”, Bhattarai told the media.
But isn’t he the head of the government only?
Bhattarai made the comment after his own party ‘Unified Maoists’ standing committee suggested him on Sunday to refrain from leaving the country as the country and the party itself were undergoing a dangerous crisis period.
It had been reported on Sunday that the invitation was in fact sent directly to the President but as the President’s office forwarded the invitation to the Prime Minister’s secretariat for seeking necessary approval and making the required arrangement, PM Bhattarai insisted that rather than sending the President he should instead take part in the meet as he was the executive of the country. The President’s office was taken aback by the decision, it has also been reported.
Presidential insult by Caretaker PM. It so happens in Nepal alone.
“At a time when the party is undergoing a crisis party’s vice chairman and prime minister should not have left the country,” claimed Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
Mahara looks after the party’s international affairs.
Brazil marketing opportunity. How sweet.
