The lame duck Chairman of the UML party (he is taken so by his own party insiders), Jhal Nath Khanal who is also among the ones who had remained instrumental in the calculated death of the Nepali Constituent Assembly body has preached that unless the certain constitutional amendments were not made, the election to the new CA body was just an impracticable proposition.
This does mean that the fresh CA election was possible if the parties forged consensus and effect some required constitutional amendment.
To recall, it was this UML party which has many a times in the recent past ridiculed the possibility of an election as announced by the caretaker PM Bhattarai.
Line Aye Jasto Cha…
This by extension means that the UML will finally bow down to Bhattarai’s announcement.
Bowing down is thy fate UML!
Yet Khanal made it clear that the election as announced by the caretaker government can in no way facilitate the country to get out from the current political impasse.
He also criticized the Maoists party by stating that the government by announcing the election has ignored the people’s expectations and aspirations.
He, however, also expressed that for forging a national consensus among the parties, the parties having its representation if the incumbent government must make serious efforts in arriving at a national consensus.
Million dollar suggestion indeed. The people never knew that Khanal was brilliant par ecellence.
“The government must work in making the atmosphere favorable for having a national consensus amongst the parties”, Khanal said.
He made these observations yesterday, May 16, 2012, while receiving a delegation of Sancharika Samuh now being chaired by Ms. Nirmala Sharma.
