The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued a show cause notice to the government for once again for having declared the dates of the next constituent assembly election.
A single bench comprising of Justice Tahir Ali Ansari has demanded written clarification from the prime minister within ten working days.
Justice Ansari also says in his ruling that ‘as the issue holds serious constitutional questions and public concern, a special bench should hear the matter’.
A writ petition was filed by advocate Santosh Basnet on Tuesday May 29, 2012, challenging the PM’s call for fresh elections by the government.
Justice Ansari has also issued a stay order over the governments’ decision.
The final hearing will be held within 25 working days, it has been reported by the media referring to SC officials.
