The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu was quick to rebuke a report published by Kantipur National Daily, May 18, 2012, where an official at the consulate general of India in Birgunj was reported to have provoked local leaders to shake Madhesh.
The press release, May 18, 2012, issued by the embassy is as follows:
“We have seen media reports attributing certain remarks to an official in the Consulate General of India, Birgunj, which are misleading and factually incorrect. Such attributions seek to detract from the friendly relations between India and Nepal.
India remains committed to supporting the constitution making process for the establishment of a stable, democratic and prosperous Nepal and will cooperate in the manner determined exclusively by the people and leadership of Nepal. India desires positive outcomes in Nepal, which necessarily must remain Nepali led and Nepali driven”.
