Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Unified Maoists Party a day after forging consensus between major parties on constituting 11 federal states based on multi-ethnicity has said that the basis for formation of the states will still be mono-ethnic.
“I am of the view that without identity, states cannot be formed.
However, with Nepali Congress and United Marxist Leninist resisting on their stand for 6-7 states we had to accept multi-ethnicity”, he beamingly said at the party central committee meeting.
The panel led by Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’ was not invited in the meeting.
Dahal is further quoted as saying by the media, “The 11 state model is ours own. The agenda for directly elected president also belongs to us. We have now the upper hand.”
He continued, as quoted by Nagarik Daily, “The names and demarcation of the 11 states shall be proposed by the central federal commission and shall also be based on the model proposed by state restructuring commission.
Dahal says, “The parliament will later endorse the proposal. You all know that we are in the majority in the parliament, which means that names and demarcation will also be executed as per our preferences. I firmly believe that Madhesi and Janajati will also support us. Later it is up to the state assemblies to accept or reject the decision of the parliament.”
Dahal also assured that under no circumstances will the directly elected president be a ceremonial one.
“If Ram Baran Yadav who was elected by the parliament could be powerful enough to compel an executive prime minister to resign, a directly elected president will be much powerful than him”, Dahal claimed referring to his resignation as the country’s prime minister.
The resignation pain remains.
