UML leader Jha favors Mithila State

Telegraph Nepal

Politburo member of CPN UML, Mr. Ramchandra Jha, who has begun fighting for the cause of a separate Mithila state, has said that the ongoing struggle is purely a native one and is not being sponsored by alien forces.

Health Minister Rajendra Mahato had said while addressing a press meet in Janakpur the other day that he had deep suspicion that the struggle for Mithila State was a sponsored one though he had no idea whatsoever as to which force on earth was behind the struggle.

In his article published on Kantipur Daily, May 7, 2012, Jha, claimed the idea of single Madhesh province was not in the overall interest of Maithil Community.

It is believed that Mithila Community is the largest ethnic group inhabiting Nepal’s Tarai plains.

Some Madhesi leaders even suspect that the agenda of a separate Mithila State has been raised with the hidden idea to eventually create Mithila nation through merger with some adjoining territories of India.

To recall, reports had it that Ram Chandra Jha is in possession of the Indian Residency Permit from Harlakhi area of Madhubani District, State of Bihar.  By the way, Madhubani also falls in territory of ancient Mithila.

(His residency certificate from Madhubani, Bihar, has already been published by several newspapers in the past).

Nevertheless, Ram Chandra Jha also claims in his article that the leaders who were elevated to Kathmandu’s power corridor through Madhesh uprising have raised the unfair idea of One Madhesh Province

To recall, Janakpur- abode of Hindu goddess ‘Mata Sita’ turned into a killing field where 4 people died on the spot and more than 28 were left injured in a deadliest explosion that took place in the entire history of the ancient city, April 30, 2012.

India based Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Rajan Mukti) has taken the responsibility for carrying out the explosion.

"If Rajan Mukti is the culprit why can’t the government take action against the group that is terrorizing Nepali population from the alien territory (read India)", Jha questions?

But who will bell the cat? Jha remains tight lipped.

He suggested the government to initiate campaign against the outfit in coordination with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

But Maoists remained safe in New Delhi even if the INTERPOL was chasing them, to recall?

Jha is also of the view that Mithila community has made tremendous contributions in strengthening Nepali nationalism

"The Nepali nationalism was founded during Gopal and Mahispal dynasty. Both dynasties were from cattle herding community from the soil of Mithila."

"During the time of King Prithivi Narayan Shah, the 'Tirhut Sena (army)' under the command of the Sen king of Makwanpur had contributed to extend Nepal's territory up to Teesta river in the east", he reminded the history.

"Against this backdrop, demand for the formation of Mithila state is just and rightful and hence it deserves support from all Nepali citizens", he concluded.

  • Maithils of India have sympathy with the maithils of Nepal in their state movement but there is no intention of making one country, as feared rather a big Madhesh may Balknaize Napal. Yes we also want Mithila state but within India. Since the Mithila is divided in two counties we need two Mithila states one each in each country.
