Federalism in Nepal unacceptable at cost of nation: Arjun K. C

Telegraph Nepal

Senior Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh K.C. claims that Nepali Congress will not compromise on the seven state federal model proposed by the NC party.

He was speaking to journalists at an interaction program organized by Nepal Press Union in Bidur of Nuwakot.

“The NC will not deter from its position just because a group of people come to the streets making several demands. We cannot compromise on our territorial integrity and nationalism,” said K.C.

The NC leaders seldom make remarks on nationalism and national integrity.

“Federalism cannot be achieved at the cost of the nation,” he added.

“The 7-state model proposed by the party is sustainable on economical and environmental terms as well”, he continued.

In conclusion, said K.C. “Our model also recognizes the local identity and its potential.”

  • So far Nepal and its resources waere in the hands of the selected few and to be precise in the hands of the 'Tatha-Batas'.Earlier Kings and Ranas were in the stage;after they left politicians had a free hand.Country's resources/earnings/money received from donor nations and world banks and Asian Dev banks were not properly managed. After the fomation of federal states it will have to be propotionately and properly divided amongst those states or else states will raise hue and cry.Perforce the country and the states will have to manage within its resources.Where is the problem then.

  • It's for sure that if federalism is imposed the jeopardy of nation could not be resisted.Nation not in position to digest federalism and indeed the full-fledged decentralization of power up to local levels is a must but,not a federalism.

  • He is a wise and among the few remaking thoughtful ones. Most of his party men are Indian agents ready to sell mother Nepal But lets not forget it was Girija who was the first one to sell our integrity and nationalism. If they can get rid of Sushil Koirala thing will get better for the party. When you dump Sushil make sure Sitaula and Sujata go with him.:)
