New Delhi playing double in Nepali politics: Senior media man Dixit

Telegraph Nepal

Senior Journalist Kanak Mani Dixit is also not at all happy with New Delhi’s newly acquired stand on Nepali politics.

Friends have turned into foes. This is New Delhi’s fate in Nepal. Poor New Delhi!

Writes Dixit in Nagarik National Daily, April 26, 2012, whereas on the one hand New Delhi formally tags Indian Maoists as ‘terrorist’, on the other, it is engaged in the exercise of elevating the Nepali Maoists- who adhere to similar ideology, to power.

He also claims that New Delhi rulers have begun heavily relying on few diplomats, intelligence agencies and some new confidantes of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu in order to chart its Nepal policies. Dixit is also of the view that since New Delhi is frustrated with Nepal’s non ending political disputes thus they rely on informal sources.

Great idea to the Indian regime mixed with pain?

“While playing with Nepal’s transitional and confusing constitutional politics, New Delhi has dragged itself into Nepal’s constitutional complications…,” also writes Dixit and adds, “New Delhi’s freshly acquired line has affected the constitution drafting process negatively mainly in the system of governance (Presidential or parliamentary) and in the state restructuring process as well.”

Grand revelation indeed.

“It becomes clear that New Delhi is in favour of creating states based on ethnicity mainly in Madhesh---which has been affecting the constitution drafting process in a negative manner”, Dixit blames.

“Why Delhi chose this line is perplexing”, bewildered Dixit questions.

  • Are yar, isn't it very clear Mr. Dixit that Madhesh will be their long term trump card. They could use that against Nepal whenever we get closer to China and policies that does not please them. Nepal should revert back to its own agenda which 14 zone and 75 districts? What was bad in that? Federalism is a seed to further conflict because not everyone's need will be answered through this process. But the bottom line is that India is no friend!
