Nepal: Select NC CA members reject North-South federal states

Telegraph Nepal

Some Constituent Assembly members representing the Nepali Congress party have warned the party high command not to split Madhesh (Tarai) from geographical North to South.

The NC CA members with their electoral constituencies in the Tarai/Madhesh had gathered at the party parliamentary office, Friday April 20, 2012 and threatened not to accept the ‘conspiracy’ to create states demarcated from geographical demarcation North to South.

Some forty CA members representing various communities from the Tarai plains including Dip Kumar Upadhyaya, Shekhar Koirala, Mahendra Yadav, Balkrishna Khand, Ajay Chaurasiya, Ajay Dwivedi and Saraswoti Chaudhary were present at the meeting.

“The three party leaders in their Hattiban talks have forged consensus against the mandate of Madhesh uprising”, said Mahendra Yadav and added, “The states as suggested by the three parties stands against the Madhesi demand and basis of federalism. We will not accept the constitution that is against our demand.”

The meeting however, made it clear that the caucus also does not also support the demand for Single Madhesh.

At least three states in Madhesh and four states in the Hilly and Mountainous region of the country would be appropriate, majority of the speakers held.

Strikingly similar was, to recall, the instructions of yet another Indian “Fantoos” which he made very freshly while talking to a select group of Nepali media men right here in Kathmandu.

Funtoos idea has clicked in a section of the NC, it appears.
