Incumbent Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala much in the manner similar to erstwhile President of Nepali Congress Late Girija Prasad Koirala ( rest in peace) will make no compromises, at least in words, on democratic norms and values.
Sushil told at a tea party held in Kathmandu, April 14, 2012, that “The Nepali Congress has been carefully nurtured over the decades while abiding by the democratic norms and principles and making sacrifices. The party will not comprise on the ideals of the party. We will not settle for anything except a democratic constitution.”
Some friends across the border must have laughed.
Koirala also noted that with the peace process taking a positive turn has also eased the situation for drafting the constitution.
Addressing at the same program, NC vice president Ram Chandra Poudel claimed that the peace process is accelerating forward in the positive direction, it is unlikely thus to take steps backward.
Poudel also assured that in the new constitution, independence of judiciary shall not be compromised.
