RJP has no links with Nepal Ex-King Gyanendra: S. B. Thapa

Telegraph Nepal

Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa of Rastriya Janashakti Party looked irked responding to repeated queries on the bygone Monarchy.

Thapa said in Birgunj of Parsa District, April 10, 2012, that his party has no links whatsoever with the monarchy as it has already accepted the line of ‘federal democratic republic’.

Critics remember an interesting comment made by a weekly newspaper some years back on Thapa.

“Thapa will be the first person to issue a welcome statement if one day India occupies Nepal.”

“It was pretty harsh on the octogenarian leader”, critics conclude. How could a Mungali Thapa become a Sikkimey Kazi Lendhup? Analysts do not believe though with some reservations.

“There is no possibility whatsoever for collaboration of any sort with former King Gyanendra,” he told scribes.

He however, urged democratic forces to join hands as the situation in the country is becoming uncertain and as there is the urgent need to preserve democratic norms, ideals and culture.

Thapa turned a strong democrat after the end of autocratic Panchayat regime in 1990. He used to be considered one of the strongest pillars of the then System during the three decades of single party Panchayat rule. He then enjoyed Indira Gandhi’s support to sustain his regime.

Nevertheless, the political maverick expressed his suspicion over the timely drafting of constitution.

  • Don't overdo it Mr. Thapa or nobody will believe you anymore. Also, your timing for drama is a little off. In fact your party's principle is out of whack too. Maybe it's time for you to retire or dissolve RJP and launch Nepali congress II with India's blessing. Your disenfranchised party members will be welcomed by RPP-Nepal.
