Nepal Charter can’t be drafted under shadow of weapons: Mahat

The new Nepal Constitution can’t be drafted living under the shadow of weapons which is still in the possession of the Maoists.

So said Dr. Ram saran Mahat, a NC leader who is concurrently a member of the Special Army Integration Committee while talking to his party cadres in Damauli, April 6, 2012.

This is in sharp contrast with what his own party president Sushil Koirala’s assertion which he made yesterday in Sindhuli while talking to the media men affiliated with the local Nepal Press Union chapter.

“If the constitution is to be drafted on time then the Maoists must submit their entire weapons, militia and also vacate the now occupied cantonments at the earliest”, opined Dr. Ram Saran Mahat.  

NC President Sushil had told the media men that the new Nepal Charter would be promulgated on time.

However, Dr. Mahat’s expressions speak something entirely different.

“Let the Maoists cry as much as they want, however, the peace and constitution drafting process will not move even an inch further until the Maoists abide by the seven point agreement signed in the recent past”, Mahat told in a determined manner.

According to Mahat, the Maoists wish to draft a constitution of their preference with the strength of the weapons which still remains in their possession.

“Since the Maoists chairman and his party cadres prefer to remain above the laws of the land and thus they could be taken novae feudal without having any hesitation and reluctance”, concluded Dr. Mahat.

Now match Sushil’s claim with Mahat’s fresh utterances.

By the way, Dr. Mahat appears to have failed to meet the Indian Guru who was in town recently. Poor Mahat!
