Nepal-Pakistan have historical and cultural bonds: Pak FM Ms. Khar

The Pakistan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, has lauded Nepal-Pakistan relations.

Perhaps this is her first statement on Nepal-Pakistan bilateral relations, analysts note.

Says the Pakistan foreign minister, “Pakistan and Nepal have historical and cultural bonds”.

She made these observations while forwarding a congratulatory message to the Look Nepal Magazine on the eve of Pakistan National Day, March23, 2012.

Minister Khar further claimed that “Pakistan and Nepal enjoy excellent bilateral relations”.

She, in her congratulatory message, hopes that “these bonds will be further strengthened to the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples in the years to come”.

The magazine was released on the National Day of Pakistan, last Friday, March 23, 2012.

Speaking on the same occasion, Nepal’s foreign minister, Narayan Kaji Shrestha aka Prakash (talking to the same magazine) says that “As the members of the United nations, SAARC and non-aligned movement, Nepal and Pakistan share similar views on the issues of common interests in many international and regional fora”.

Minister Shrestha opines that “Nepal and Pakistan enjoy cordial and friendly relations ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1960 and that even before the establishment of our bilateral relations, there existed close cultural and social contacts with the people of present day Pakistan for several centuries”.

Minister Shrestha hoped that the bilateral relations will continue to grow in the days to come.

Pakistan observed its National Day celebrations in Kathmandu, March 23, 2012, at Hyatt Hotel.

As the Chief guest of the national day celebrations, Nepal Vice President Permananda Jha graced the occasion wherein he stated that “Nepal and Pakistan are two best friends committed to promoting the ideas of SAARC for the larger interests of the South Asian people.

VP Jha maintained that “Nepal and Pakistan enjoy excellent relations based on cordiality, mutual understanding and friendship and share views on several issue of international importance for the common good of the people of the world and for world peace”.

“Nepal and Pakistan share similar aspirations for amity, peace and tranquility in the region (SA) and have similarity of views on regional and international issues”, so said the Charge d’ Affaires of the Pakistan embassy in Nepal, Mr. Ahmar Ismail on the occasion.

Highlighting the foreign policy of Pakistan, the Pakistani envoy said that “my country’s foreign policy is based on its commitment to regional and global peace and security”.

He lamented over the state of Nepal-Pakistan economic relations. He noted that “despite excellent relations between our two countries, one area that leaves much to be desired is the economic relations which were much below the actual potential of the two countries”.
