“It all depends on the Unified Maoists Party now whether they want to conclude the peace process and complete the constitution drafting process or not”, said Ram Saran Mahat of Nepali Congress at a program in Bhaktapur, March 26, 2012.
“The ball lies in the Maoist’s court now. It is up to them to decide whether they want constitution drafted on time”, he said.
However, intelligent Mahat did not reveal what course Nepali Congress will take if Maoists do not support the constitution drafting process?
Mahat also opined that the parties need to keep aside their interests in resolving the contentious issues of state restructuring and federalism.
He however, warned that as is being advocated by Maoists for establishing states based on communal ground, will eventually disintegrate the country.
“At best only six states can our economy withstand. We cannot slash the country like vegetables”, he also claimed.
