Nepal Monarchy revival issue hits ex-Pancha party unity

Telegraph Nepal

The revival of the now sidelined institution of monarchy, according to Rastriya Janshakti Party (RJP) Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Pashupati Shumser Rana, has been the major obstacle for the unity with Chairman Kamal led Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal.

Talking to the press men in Beni March 25, 2011, both the chairmen, former tip to toe Royalists, had made such a remark.

Thapa and Rana are currently in Myagdi District capital, Beni, to attend the joint convention of both the parties of the former Panchas.

“Our parties have long time back rejected the monarchical order and accepted the republican system as according to the constitution. However, the RPP-Nepal has made restoration of monarchy it’s bottom-line. Yet we are holding talks”, said Pashupati Shumser Rana.

Mr. Rana and the former King Gyanendra are childhood day’s friends.

Thapa supporting Rana said, “No progress has been made towards unity with RPP-Nepal. The dialogue is still on.”

Thapa however, did not disclose whether his party could eventually reject the failed republican order and accept monarchy bottom line of the RPP-Nepal.

After all, he must have been thinking of his past bright and sunny days which he enjoyed to the hilt being a staunch Royalist of the highest order.

Pashupati Rana also made it clear that under no circumstances was promulgation of new constitution possible in the remaining time period.

The RJP vice chairman Prakash Chandra Lohani also made it clear that present government led by Baburam was the most corrupt of all governments and to a greater extent other parties preferring to remain tight lipped over the government’s performance were also responsible for the current sorry state of the country.

The chameleons.
