India never acted like ‘agent’ for political change in Nepal: Thapa

Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa of Rastriya Janshakti party thinks that the political parties could draft the constitution in instalments.

In the first instalment, he claimed, the parties could come to terms for promulgating the constitution without a federal order.

Talking to the Himalayan Television Channel March 10, 2012, Thapa however, declined to comment on the political situation that will follow after May 27 deadline elapses without drafting the constitution.

“In any case with or without the constitution, the country will take on its normal course”, he said.

When asked by veteran journalist Rishi Dhamala whether the situation after May 27 will be dreadful, replied Thapa, “The country will move on the normal course. Rest, only time will tell.”

He declined to make any further comments.

When asked if India was supporting for monarchy’s revival, Thapa viewed that India had never been an agent of change in Nepal and that Nepalese themselves decide their fate.

Himalayan joke of the week.

“You could directly talk to him and ask exactly what transpired between him and the Indian leaders,” replied Thapa angrily when asked by Dhamala on former king Gyanendra’s recent trip to New Delhi.

"Thapa viewed that India had never been an agent of change in Nepal"- It does not suit such a respected and a veteran politician to distort the truth like this. Of course India always been involved in Nepalese politics. They have been trying to change Nepal since the first chance they got; after their independence. The Koiralas were the first agents they sent to Nepal. Everyone knows that. If Mr. Thapa is correct, then why is that every Nepali politician, including the King, has to visit India for their advice. The health check up, wedding ceremonies and friendly visits are just the pretext to go there to kiss their masters' feet and get their blessings. If we want to live in a sovereign Nepal, we first need to accept that we have this problem, rather than pretending that we do not. So shame on you Mr. Surya Thapa for not having the courage to state the facts.
