Nepal Apex Court jolts corrupts, Sitting Minister Gupta locked up

Telegraph Nepal

One of the Girija Prasad Koirala “family” henchmen who amassed wealth to the tune of astronomical amount during his almost two decades of political career, Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta, aka JP, was served one and half year of imprisonment by the Supreme Court, February 21, 2012.

All Girija men will have Gupta fate if found corrupt, analysts hope.

Girija left for his heavenly abode, March 20, 2010. Rest in peace.

The Supreme Court verdict claims that Jayaparakash had amassed wealth of NPR 8.5 Million without having legal source of the income. The SC has directed government authorities to confiscate his properties and has also slapped a fine of NPR 8.5 Million on the champion of Madhesh.

It is for the first time a sitting minister has been put behind the bars. Justice prevails even in 12 point republican Nepal.

The happiest of all would be none other than Chairman Upendra Yadav of the original Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum.

Later talking to journalist, Gupta claimed that the SC decision had been a biased one as it used to be for the Madhesis.

Nepal’s Pahadiyas and Madhesis are brothers and sisters, be it known to all.

“The SC verdict is not against me but it is against the movement that I had initiated for the up liftment of Madhesi community,” Gupta-a former obedient student of Girija school of thought thus claimed. It was expected!

But did the Madhesi community received a share from his loot?

When asked to comment on the Supreme Court verdict both Chairman Jhal Nath of United Marxist Leninist and Nepali Congress’ Ram Chandra Poudel shared similar views, “The verdict should not be given a political color.”

Claimed Khanal said, “The verdict should not be interpreted as being against Madhesi population.”

Surprisingly, Gupta’s own party colleagues have greeted the SC decision.

“We honor the SC decision,” claimed Raj Kishor Yadav of Madhesi Janaadhikar Form-Ganatantrik.

Meteoric rise of Minister Gupta finally landed him in jail. Every unusual height has a fall, it is said.

Gupta hails from Kanchanpur, Saptarai district.

  • “The SC verdict is not against me but it is against the movement that I had initiated for the up liftment of Madhesi community,” Gupta. No, the verdict was against you. Just you and only you. Gupta should feel proud and lucky that he is among the first and has been awarded a rare opportunity to experience the humility that so many of our great leaders deserve. Now let's present the same opportunities to the rest of our "mahaan" leaders starting with Sujata and everyone associated with the Sudan Scam. Them three cops are just the scapegoats.

  • justice is yet to be prevailed. until now the supreme court has only sent two looters to jail with very mild jail terms. both these are politically very weak. we have to see if the supreme court is bold enough to act against the politically strong personalities like bijaya gachhedar, govinda raj joshi and khum bahadur khadka. their cases are not even processed. is the court waiting for them to be politically weak and then beginn the process? why the court is so slow? there are still 60 such cases pending. even if the court finalises one case in a month it takes 5 years to finish them all. the pace now is one case in a year so it will take another 60 years to finish them all.

  • When corrupts are punished people take a long sigh of relief ! At least some steps are being taken in the direction 0f'breaking the barrier of impunity'. BUT it should not be a matter of whimsical 'Pick and chhoose' from amongst the corrupt people.Only choice our legal system could adopt is -"Pick up big and influential fishes first" !Punishments should be exemplary and not "Khana-Purti"!

  • First the late Girja Psd Koirala was not country lover. And he never love to the Nepalese society. The example is very clear in his polotics history of Nepal. Who were supported to him during the his politics carrier they were all trained by him exactly the same behave what he was have. Sooner or later will disclosed slowly not only NC there will be more than 250 big corrupted bad political man including other parties. The people knows very well about that.
